... ask the super to not only build something to cover the A/C, but another "box" to cover the other side - maybe you could use it for storage.

Curtains or Roman Shades? Good Questions

If you covered the lower part of the "longer" window you'd have two similar windows left. Furniture? Frost it? Build a wooden frame, cover with plywood, paint it, paper it, .....?

@LIVKT: The back of the drawers doesn't have the u-shaped hole, so she must simply have turned them around.

Before & After: From IKEA Basic to a Vintage-Look Card Catalog The Painted Hive
5/4/12 2:44 PM

Depending on how tight your tight budget is, I'd do the following, possibly bit by bit, as quickly or slowly as money stretches:

a) raise that bed:
There are lots of solutions on the internet: some on AT:
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/5-diy-bed-frames-with-built-in-114077

and many, many more on the aforementioned IKEAhackers:
http://www.ikeahackers.net/search/label/bedroom

One solution I could imagine is actually putting the bed on top of three Expedit 2x4s (like in the first suggestion on AT).

Then, maybe later on, you might want to fill the gaps between the 3 Expedits with two smaller Expedits on casters (you'd have to consider the additional height when mounting the first Expedits, of course, so they all line up in the end.)

Something like this:
http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/04/expedit-for-compact-living.html
but with three long Expedits not on casters and two short ones on casters.

b) I'd also try to find one of the high Pax wardrobes (2,36 m), or rather a wide one and a slim one, so that you have a width of 1,50m, which should fit between the window and the radiator.

c) As suggested, use paint to pull things together. For example, if you go for white shelves, spray paint that minishelf on top of the chest of drawers white.

d) Declutter or cover. That open nook is an eyesore - maybe find a small curtain rod and cover it with the blue scarf you have got on the wall. Then center the print over the bed.

e) Use the space underneath the windowsill. Build very slim shelves from wood bought at the DIY. At least here in Germany they do cut it to measure for free. Paint them white so they blend into the background and use for paperbacks and CDs.

Check out ebay for both Pax and Expedits: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=pax%20wardrobe&_clu=2&_dlg=1&_dmpt=UK_Bedroom_Furniture&LH_PrefLoc=0&_sadis=100&_fpos=AB1&_fspt=1&LH_Distance=AB1..100

f) Do something about the curtains. They stick into the space a lot AND don't pick up any colour or pattern that's already there but add another one. Therefore they take away space and at the same time add visual clutter.

g) It's difficult to say how much space there is between the bed and the wall with the radio. Also, I'm not sure if the main door to the room is at the top end of the bed or at the bottom (top, I understood, but I'm not sure).
Do consider the idea suggested here:http://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/03/ikea-self-hack-pax-as-walk-in-closet.html#more

Good luck!

Help for Tiny Bedroom in Aberdeen Flat? Good Questions

Looking at the photo gallery over at The Diversion Project, does anyone know who makes shelves like the one in picture 9? (The white metal one?)

Anyone remember this?

Another variation on the same theme:
http://www.ikeahackers.net/2010/10/turn-your-studio-apartment-into-1.html

There used to be another Ikea-room divider hack, but I cannot find it. It was very pretty.
If I remember it correctly, it had open shelving on top (to let the light through, and to hold some decorations), and closed storage at the bottom. The storage opened to the "hallway", and the back of the cupboards doubled as the headboard of the bed.

Using Expedit, you could use the drawers or doors that are now available, making the shelf semi-see-through.

In Germany, you usually rent unfurnished. In Hamburg, the kitchen has to be equipped with a sink and a stove, but nothing else. If the people renting before you put in a kitchen they don't want to (or cannot) take into their new place, they might try to sell it off to you. (You can accept, but don't have to.)

Leases can either be time-limited, or unlimited, then it's indicated how much notice you have to give if you want to move out. Fpr the landlord it's not so easy to get you out of the flat if you didn't do anything wrong, so I feel well-protected in my flat and know it's worth to furnish it the way I want, because I'll be here for some time.

As for eggs: in Germany they are sold unrefrigerated and unwashed. The best before -date is 28 days after the eggs were laid. After that date, eggs should always be completely cooked (no more softboiled eggs).

For 18 days the egg can be kept unrefrigerated, after that it should be kept in the fridge - though nowadays it's often recommended to keep the eggs in the fridge right from the beginning, which is what I do anyway, because neither do I want to "reserve" counter space and fridge space for eggs, nor do I want to have to remember when to move the eggs from one place to the other.

Maybe I'd paint the walls a light grey - Benjamin Moore's Beacon Grey might be a choice.
Like this, I feel there's too much white and other bright colours making the colour scheme appear somewhat random to me.

May I tell you that so far none of my Ikea furniture has fallen apart? The oldest pieces are two directors chairs that were my "first" pieces of furniture, i.e. the first ones I was allowed to pick when I was a teenager, 14 or so.... Oh, I'm 38 now, by the way.

I also wonder if people would still prefer the Breuer if the Poäng was the ten times more expensive chaise. Just wondering....

Weighing the Options: Deciding Which Furniture to Buy

Sounds great, BUT..... when I googled borax to see if I can buy it here in Germany, I found that it shouldn't be used in the household because it's classified as "toxic for reproduction": it can affect fertility as well as the unborn child.
Apart from that, it's not as if it doesn't affect the environment (like all cleaners).

I tried to find some information in English:
http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2009/05/borax-is-it-safe.html

As for cheapness, it might still win over commercial products, of course. I just wanted to utter this word of caution....

I have the deeper Pax, I have had it for 3,5 years now and I bought most of the elements used on ebay. Disassembling furniture is never fun, but it wasn't that big a problem and assembling is it quite easy - just make sure you have someone to help you because the wardrobes are so big and heavy to lift.

I love all the different elements I can buy for my Pax, and I also use it with boxes (for scarves, gloves, etc) or to store my gym bag in there. Behind the gym bag I store other bags I rarely use, so I don't mind the two rows and several layers.
