We have the IKEA kitchen too and the metal shopping cart so our little one can go "shopping at the market (ie one of our kitchen drawers filled with play food) and then cook at home". She loves it and we love them for the price and simplicity- just curious, anyone know what's the kitchen in the picture... custom?

Oooh, love all the air around this house. Feng shui goodness! (And makes me want to minimalize our house even more!) Please someone tell me where those two bed frames are from??

We just bought a new, all organic, 100% natural latex mattress. Because my husband has a compromised immune system, this splurge was totally worth it. We should have done it sooner. Love that it's natural, love that it's good for him, love that it's ridiculously, insanely comfy.

If we had a bigger piggy bank, we'd splurge on a custom couch too, but alas, that just isn't going to happen any time soon.

Everything else is pretty much CL-ed/eBay-ed, thrifted, researched to the death and waited on for a sale, or just plain handmade.

We went to Home Depot and bought a packet of those thick white vent filters you can cut to size to place in the wall and floor registers themselves. Love them! They filter out a ton of dirt, debris, allergens, smoke, and dust particles. You can rinse them out or cut a new one every few months. Ta-da, super cheap clean(er) air!

Just like pretty much any home around here nowadays, we have a heap of electronics from tvs to laptops to iPhones to appliances to about a zillion other things we plug in. And we've been through 4 different brands of monitors all swearing to reduce or eliminate static. Nope. The ONLY one that has worked as brilliantly as promised is the Philips Avent monitor. It runs on a different frequency than your other electronics so it's totally silent. It's pricey (around $100) but you don't hear one zzzztttp of static at all and it's got volume and sensitivity adjustments, and a sweet walkie-talkie feature. We don't have the video one, but we didn't feel we needed it with such a great audio monitor. I LOVE THIS THING!

Love the openness, color and aura of this room! There's some great ideas here. Does anyone know where the mirro/changing table is from? Is it custom??

I used to work for LucasArts and only left when I had my daughter, who's favorite book really is Goodnight Moon. This is absolutely PERFECT for her!

Oh by the way, I'm not a "white mommy". I'm Asian with a German last name. The surprised look on my teacher's faces when it was me who raised my hand during roll call was always pretty funny.

WOW, this is probably my favorite thread so far. I actually read all the comments! And to have the time & patience with a fireball of a 1 year old running around, that's pretty amazing for me.

It's obvious given all the passion (good, bad, indifferent) written here, the issue with names is super personal!! I'm 31 and have an old-fashioned name (Genevieve) which was butchered to no end when I was growing up. (Geneva? Really? Do you see an "a"?!). I was first nicknamed Genny, but having to always say, "with a G" at the end of that got old real fast. I just bit the bullet and started going by my full name in college. I used to hate it, but since then, I've loved it.

It was my husband, who also has a very un-common, but not hard to pronounce, name, who reminded me of the upsides to having a unique name (that's unique, not "weird" by majority standards). So we named our daughter Olivienne. Like mine, it's got French roots, 9 letters and a v. Selfish? I guess kinda, but we liked it, it sounded soft, sweet, and vintage, and really, isn't just liking the name whatever it is the main standard parents use for naming their kids anyway? With the world getting smaller and smaller, more and more international, we're bound to learn and meet people which all kinds of names, no?

But until she's bigger, we can only guess if our daughter will experience tireless corrections to her name! Sorry in advance sweetie!

(PS- I knew a girl in HS who had a boy and named him Jacob Daniel. Not so different, except that her name was Danielle Jacobs. I guess people will always know they are mother and son. To each their own!)

I love de-cluttering. It's like a master-cleanse for your house and soul (minus the maple syrup overload).

One question for this post that kind of has the opposite effect of de-cluttering.... can anyone tell me the name of the round coffee table/bean bag contraption in the main picture? We have a 6 month old who's ready to crawl and I'll be donating our beloved mid-century trunk in favor of something without corners very soon. That thing looks PERFECT.

Totally agree with Jennifer. I love the design IDEAS in your room. We don't have anything hanging above our crib except for a origami mobile I made and then nailed to the vaulted ceiling. Our daughter wouldn't be able to reach it even if she learned to somehow jump real high. BUT I still got flack for that, even though it's made of paper and string, weighs as much as a feather AND is hung with one of those grapple nails. It will only come down if a chunk of the ceiling goes with it! Just go with your gut and know what works for you and change when necessary. Looks like you put a lot of thought and creativity in your current design. And so awesome to see pink without the 'princess'. Great work!
