Well we painted over our dark wood floors. Like Architexas says, the key is to not wanting them to be pristine. I love our white floors. Our dark floors (upstairs) show every little fleck of dust and lint. Our white scuffed floors do not. Sure, it's ideal if I sweep them every night but hey, I don't, I'm almost clean freak, and I can live with it. It opens up our dark home and gives an airiness that isn't actually there. You know, it's worth a try. It's a weekend of work to paint, and if it doesn't work for you, it's not permanent. The Truth About White Floors | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

Also check out June 09 living etc., there's a good example of a charcoal wall in there. Depending on what furniture you have, it can really make a room feel very vivid. LOVE that blue above, by the way. Apartment Therapy New York | ColorTherapy: "Dear ColorTherapy..." |
