The tile flooring looks fantastic. What size are the tiles?

I wish that savesaltspringrainforest.com was on the list. It's a new organization trying to buy about 20 acres of rainforest on an island in BC(Saltspring Island) If you check out their website you can see the amazing pics of the land and why it's so important to the island and the planet. They need to raise $375000 more in order to buy the land from developers. Perhaps they could be added to 1% list and apartment therapy can swoop in and make a big ol' donation!

I wish more of my clients would buy into how beautiful a garden can look as it transitions from season to season. The majority of them think that once a plant turns brown it's dead and so ask me to rip the plant out and replace it. My friends and family love it because their gardens are full of beautiful perennials!

Really cheery looking, makes me think spring is not too far off. How far down do the curtain panels hang? We have a similar set-up and I'd love to have a bright colourful curtain on our currently bare window. I didn't see the curtains on the marimekko website, did you make them?

I'm making a pillow that looks just like these. It's a super easy knit, big needles and chunky wool, it can be done in a few hours.

Having a dog is a huge responsibility and should only be considered when you've found secure housing and can commit to taking care of the pet for the rest of it's life. Your friend made the right decision and hopefully the dog will be returned to its owner or will find a new forever home. Looking at the pasadena humane society website I was shocked to see how few of the dogs have been neutered. If you can't afford to have your pet spayed or neutered you shouldn't get one.

The article on rocks is great, I'm always so frustrated when I see people buying polished rocks at Ikea. I don't think people even think about where they come from.

My dog loves our Flokati rug and although he's black and the rug is cream, it comes clean with a good shake. He'd love this doggy bed!

whoops, forget one thing: Orangejuice, did your mum work outside of the home? I just don't think you can compare today's families with those of the past. With both people working, when do you find the time to clean a home thoroughly?

I think in a couple or roommate situation a house cleaner would be great. No matter what "agreement" my boyfriend and I try to come up with in regards to who will clean what, I usually end up being the one to do all the cleaning. Maybe are standards are different, or maybe it's because he's mother did everything for him. I let our place get totally messy this week just to prove a point, but now I'm having a friend for dinner and I have to clean:(
I'm sure housekeeper's can be credited with keeping couples together!

Just from looking at your pics your soil looks like it has quite a bit of wood material in it, so adding compost would be great. I would raise the beds(add higher sides) and then add quite a bit of compost. I'm sure the roots from the plants on the other side of the fence(bamboo?) have spread into your garden and are probably not helping the soil situation. Try removing the roots and then placing a metal barrier between the two yards so that the bamboo can't invade your garden.
If you can consistently mulch your beds with compost or leaf mulch you'll have great soil for growing vegis.
If you can start your seeds indoors you will probably have better luck.
I would check out www.yougrowgirl.com she has some great advice on vegetable gardening. It's Toronto based, but still fairly relevant to all climates.

My suggestion would be to find an individual who owns their own cleaning business and is looking for long-term clients.
I own my own gardening company and I'm happy they're are people who want help with their gardens. If their weren't people looking for "hired help" then many of us wouldn't have careers/businesses that we love and that provide us with a good income.
If you're willing to pay someone well and treat them as a valuable resource then I have no doubt you'll find the perfect person to help within your home.

We used an antique cabinet that has a marble top. The cabinet was about $200, we put a simple white vessel sink on top for about $100 and then the faucet was an additional $100. We had the hole cut out with a waterjet and I believe it cost us about $25 or so. It wasn't dirt cheap, but it looks unique and it's built well.

I am a vegi, for many reasons: the environment, the way animals are raised for mass consumption and I've never liked the taste of meat. I must say I take less issue with an animal being raised with respect and then a farmer utilizing all the parts of the animal. Fur production is not ethical, they don't allow the animals to roam, nor do they use all of the animal.
If you like the idea of fur, get a living breathing animal from your local pound and cuddle away.

Did you read the blog? The comments are, well....not too bright.
I think Kah has a point, the only thing I'd say about cow farming is that cows normally get roaming time in the fields. I'm guessing they don't allow the coyotes to wander about freely, I believe they live their lives in pens/cages. I don't agree with mass animal farming, but that's another issue all together. I guess it comes down to respecting the life of an animal and if you're using animal products then make sure you know the creature was raised ethically and killed humanely.

I had no idea that coyotes were used for their fur. I did some research after reading about the above hammock and was truly disgusted with what I found. Placing a wild animal into captivity for their fur is cruel and completely unnecessary in today's world. It's one thing to kill an animal that has roomed freely in the wild and to then use all of the animal for food and clothing, it's another to use animals for design or fashion.
Coyotes run freely in Vancouver, BC and I can't imagine these poor creatures living in cages. I wonder how much Kanye West would like living in a box?

I'd use the colours of the rug in the livingroom. The orange would look great along the long wall with the beautiful screens and frames, this would pick up on the exotic aspect of the screens. Maybe charcoal grey above and below the kitchen cabinets and then a very light version of the charcoal grey for the other long wall opposite the orange wall.
Good luck!
