Hi, am not a fan of recessed lighting!
When you get to a certain age you see how unflattering light that shines down like recessed does.
Also a big fan of dimmers!
I like homes that are underlit, you can keep the reading light and task lighting where it belongs, that is fine!
It drives me crazy to see 20 recessed lights on one switch, so lazy.
Recessed lighting certainly does have it's place, just not in any of mine!!

Good for Derek, he is a great person and super talented. I saw his stuff @ ICFF, it rocks.

A "green" home at 4,000 sq ft?? That defies logic to me.

Hi mh330, the blue wall color is Glidden brand from Home Depot and the color is Winter Escape. Thanks, S

Hi Krister, I picked up round glass tile table at Rose Bowl flea market, it came with an awful base. I bought the Ikea table that comes with the great simple saarinen knockoff base. I stashed the Ikea table top (you never know) and attached the base to my round glass table. And I have to say, I pinched the idea from Andrew Virtue. Thanks Andrew! A great way to re-invent thrift store/flea market finds. S

Hi XT, I found the couch at Mortise & Tenon in Los Angeles on La Brea Ave (http://mortisetenon.com/). I think I paid about $2,700, which I thought was very fair. Brand new, not vintage. It was one of those things where I just walked into the store, not really looking for anything, saw the couch and just HAD to have it. I hate it when that happens! :) The scale is such that you can really stretch out on it and use it as a daybed too. I am also such a sucker for upholstery tacks.
Everyone at Mortise & Tenon are all very nice as well.
Glad you like! Steve

Hi, I agree in the photos it does appear to look a bit ghetto but I have to say that the concept in person looks great.
Usually when you want to change the scale or elevation of planted pots, you see them on a plant stand, or shelf, or something like that. Seeing the pots somewhat buried in the ground takes you a bit by surprise. It is original and clever without it being too weird....I declare it a success!

Look! Planting your pots!
