Weekend Chores: Flowers & Floors January Cure: Assignment #2

I'm with those people who have to move lots off of the floor in order to SEE and clean it. It's going to be quite a job- but I'm excited to get the push to do do this in the JC. My lovely miniature roses are ready to have a clean floor to compliment their prettiness!

Yay! I'm so happy about this. Thank you!!

On the weekends I'd love to see stuff to inspire and motivate me to keep my place clean and enjoyable for me and others. I especially need motivation to invite guests over as I often feel my place is too messy or I'm not prepared with ample drinks/food/entertainment.

When I was younger, my parents used to let me have a friend over for a sleepover for New Year's Eve. They were sneaky, and told us New Year's or "midnight" was at 9pm and we didn't know know the difference. We toasted with the grown-ups at that time and then were allowed to even stay up a little past "midnight" before we had to go to bed and thought it was quite a treat! Of course this allowed them to enjoy our company and celebrate together before we got really grumpy AND allow the grown-ups time without the kids later on. A little mean, but brilliant!

What a dilemma! Could you pay for repairs and upkeep of the stove while you're there, then take the stove with you when you leave (if you want to/are able to)? Seems like your landlord is planning on replacing and ditching the stove at the moment. If you take care of it while you're there and then decide to take it with you the landlord wouldn't really be losing out by buying a new ho hum stove for the next renter. Right?

I stated earlier I think you should paint it. I changed my mind- don't paint!

Post it here on AP Classifieds, I think you'll have a good market considering some of these comments.

Sell it and then use the proceeds to purchase a cool retro lamp in colors you love.

I agree with the above @alicelost. If you don't like the color scheme, change it.

I bought a cool 1930s lamp as a teenager from a Worlds Fair. I liked the antique, retro look but the brass color was not my aesthetic at the time and i spray painted it black. I'm in my mid 30s now and still enjoy the lamp. If I were purchasing it today, I would keep the brass color, I like that now. But I got to enjoy the lamp for many years and it matched my stuff- stuff I was into for a good while. I love antiques, studied decorative arts in college, and now would prefer to restore my things rather than change them to suit my taste. But I don't regret what I did to that lamp. I'll never get rid of it. I've got a great spot for it reminds me of my decorating my first apartment.

I feel you.

This article http://www.theminimalists.com/sentimental/ and several others from "the minimalists" really did help me begin my process of letting go.

It's still hard. And I'm far from done. I doubt I'll ever be that minimalist I aspire to be, but It's about getting your head in a new place. Makes all the difference.
