ridge_van_winkle- haha, yes, I agree it's a little crazy. I wasnt sure they'd work together either, but I'm quite happy with it. Being in the bathroom feels like being wrapped in a quilt! (It's a very small room and I was nervous the fabric would make the room look even smaller but instead it emphasizes the height of the 9 ft ceilings.)

I think it works b/c the patterns are sort of at the same scale. And since the damask is fairly small and very traditional, a whole bathroom with that would just be boring! In general I love strong black and white patterns paired with delicate Victorian or baroque ones.

Thanks guys! My bold move paid off!!! (As i was saying in my flickr description- I think I was high off my recent AT fame and decided to just bite the bullet and go for the black and white fabric.)

The pink damask was on sale ages ago here: http://www.hancocks-paducah.com. I bought it for another purpose that didnt pan out and decided to put it up in the bathroom, mostly b/c i didnt to hassle with paint. Well, half way through the job i ran out, which I suspected might happen so I did two opposite walls first. Then I rushed over to Joann on Elston with a swatch of the damask and spent 45 minutes mulling over the crazy black and white pattern.

It put it up two months ago and havent had any problems with steam or stains yet. I was thinking of getting a plexi-glass back splash for the sink but so far it hasn't been necessary.

The lucite shelf is from The Container Store and the dachshund drawing is from Ikea (a few years ago).

HAHA. That was a refreshing comment, DubTriptych. I too find the fascination with "whimsy" annoying. Though, I think it can be nice if used sparingly. And of course, I find myself saying, "isnt that CUTE!"
