wilder212: it all depends on how far the couch is from the monitor. The monitor I watch movies on is even smaller than that, but the couch is only about 6 feet away.

That sideboard isn't useful as a desk at all. My desk is in my living room and my computer monitor is the screen I watch movies on, but the monitor is on a desk-height surface so that it's useable.

We are planning on using a compostable diaper service, Earth Baby. It's a bit more expensive than traditional disposables, but a lot simpler than cloth.

It looks similar to the discontinued CB2 Briar Loveseat.

I'd aim for the "reduce" part of the equation. Try not to buy food (or other goods) that come in packaging at all. Traditional chip bags cannot be recycled, so your only choice from a garbage generating perspective is to buy less chips. Same with frozen food, which alwas generates at least some nonrecycleable plastic.

Feathers, what is the name of the ravelry group you are referring to? I am also a member of ravelry, but couldn't find it. Thanks!

Even thought we had to buy them ourselves, and they are in the basement three floors down a dirty spiral staircase, we have our own washer and dryer. Such a luxury. :)

It's also rent controlled and just a five minute walk from my commuter train.

I think putting the TV in the bookcase here makes a lot of sense. What is confusing is why it's mounted offcenter. I keep wanting to reach into the picture and nudge it right until it's perfectly centered in the opening.

Seriously, this is a badly put together list. The Air is the "ultraportable" of the apple lineup, not the MacBook, for starters.

I have the 24" Dell, and when I bought it two years ago it was not only $600 cheaper than the equivalent Cinema Display, but as others pointed out has more video inputs and is a USB hub.

At the time, I read lots of reviews that stated that Dell and Apple used the same lcd and backlight in their monitors, so the color reproduction should identical (if the monitor settings are identical). That may have changed.

Thanks SFGail, for beating me to it. The transportation cost of those beans is worth thinking about.

Living in San Francsico is my luxury. At $1400 for rent, it's also the only one.

I really wish I could do this to my bike, but they'd never let me onto the commuter train with it. :(

Don't count on being there or being able to save anything. Therefore:

1) Buy a firesafe (they are less than $50) and store the important documents you don't carry around with you (like birth certificate and passport) in there.

2) Have a total, daily, offsite backup plan for your digital files.

3) Buy renter's insurance.

If you are buying a $1300 desk for your kid, you are buying them an iMac (no tower) to go along with it I bet.

I voted "not" because making little pots from old newspaper with (*gasp*) just your hands is actually (*gasp*) quite easy.

I answered "kitchen" but really our two bikes are hanging from wall hooks in our large pantry. We have no basement or garage. A garage would be totally ideal.
