Plant toxicity is largely over-rated. Poinsettias are allegedly poisonous, only if an animal consumes bushels -- highly unlikely.

I've done something similar to this, only with my large flatscreen TV. I didn't use soda tabs either, but something a little more heavy duty. It's ridiculous that electronics stores want you to pay between $50 and $100 just to hang the stupid thing. It works perfectly well, and only cost me around a buck.

Nice looking place. I wonder how functional the ladder really is. Sure, you can use it, but it appears to have zero pitch, and isn't framed away from the wall, so only your toes can clutch onto the rungs. Maybe displace it a bit so it's not so flush to the wall? And give it a pitch so it's not such a daunting climb?

My other eyebrow raising thought is about the lighting. I, too, love the Edison, tungsten filament light bulbs, but to light a kitchen? Excellent job on all of the skylights, but I wonder how dark it must be at night. These bulbs are horribly inefficient, and I am okay with that, but they just don't deliver the lumens that are necessary to function! I have these (or similar) in my hallway, where there isn't a demand for brightness, but I can't imagine them as when I need light to see what I am doing... Are these replicas of antiques (the bulbs, not the fixtures) that provide great lighting power, or do they just look nice?

Fail. More eco-friendly would have been to reuse your fake berries. Plus, when these berries fall off, they will stain.

Why not pomegranates? I don't associate apples with Christmas... The execution here is really pretty bad; shoddy. Looks like it's about to tip over, apples about to roll over too. White tapers? Questionable choice. Why not bark-side up? Nice ideas, but could be done much better.

this is silly. To suggest there is a recipe or even guidelines?
There are great works of art on the floor, ceiling, etc.

Baroque painting in a black frame? what is the correct height for that? If someone is compelled to buy "art" then it is up to them to figure out where it belongs. I have some "art" in the bathroom. Is that a sin? How far above the tank should it sit?

If one is interested in "art;" if they are worthy of owning a piece, they should also have an idea where it should go.

"Easy to transport?" Easier than what? In case I want to travel with them?

They "keep the nutrients" in? Unlike... what?

What a joke.

A metal bed from either will probably hold up without any issues. How often does a bed break? Unless you & partner[s? ;-)] combine to weigh 1200 pounds, there's little chance that either metal bed would break.

You shopped at R&B, not for their prices, but for the brand status and general aesthetics. Just like you can choose Advil or generic ibuprofen. Same thing.

You bought it from R&B, it's yours; next time, do some more research.

Like the 6' 3" bloke, it's nice to be able to dangle the feet, so even if price were equal, I'd have chosen the West Elm model.

This might/ could be better if he were to offer a way to make things that are functional. I think most people want to buy local art, local crafts, whatever.

As they are, the pics seem like he's only featured "display" pieces that serve no function. They are beautiful, again, yet lack purpose.

Nicely done, and I'm sure it was a big project.

However, I see this as a transformation of periods. Not from "granny" to "modern." Those are still "granny" lamp shades then, too. The "before" picture is at an unflattering angle, no context, pitted & pocked walls. The "after" picture offers a clean, garnished setting.

Aesthetically, I wonder where the net gain is?

Wow, futurewayesterday was right in the comment, but didn't go far enough! On top of the bad light, what about the cliche guitar? Looks like it has a cord long enough to almost reach the couch. That couch is terrible! How would one sit on that thing?

Uh, lots of comments, each with their own plan. My idea (of course borrowing on others...)

Move the tv to where the "L" of the couch currently is. You don't want the glare on the tv, so moving it to that corner will help. Of course, putting the couch where the tv is will put the sun in your eyes, but that's intolerable enough for you to get up and lower some blinds or curtains... at some point. You could run the cable under the carpet pretty easily.

Yes, repaint.

Yes, replace the light in the stairwell. It's nearly recessed... No interest in that corner, as you observed. I've not tough a lot about it, but maybe hand a mobile? Make one? A cool (but maybe expensive) thought is convert that current fixture into another can, then have it focused on a neat mobile. It would also create some neat shadows.

Yeah, Bebsf said a few things that are on point.
I fail to see the "style" of this place. I love the coffee table, but otherwise, where is the care, where is the umph? I know a less-than-glowing remark is taboo, but jeez, the "accent pillow" choices are terrible! Don't put steak knives on a magnet. It makes no sense. Might as well put your forks and spoons up there. @anniehong, I'm glad it was "one of your favorites" I see you are a first time poster.

I like the colors of the walls.

How about trying to hang a plant to the left of the window, nearly above the john?

Also, without too much effort a Marimekko shower curtain would give the space the pizzaz you might be looking for...

Since nearly all ceiling fans are hideous... Does anyone have a DIY or advice about retrofitting a fan with better looking blades? It would seem totally possible. Sure, curvature & any physical properties of the blade might compromise optimum performance, but I could live with that. It seems that currently, the choices are profoundly & curiously country or Jetson's -- or $2,000.

Really well done! I tend to comment when I see a "foul" but this is great. I would say, however, maybe hem the tablecloth * . it seems way bulkier than the table. entertain the idea, too, of changing the color of the "stacks" or "slips" around the candles... Also, the flowers don't make sense. They are neither local nor British.

creative license, thanks. I'll give it a shot in the next several weeks, whenever I can slot 2 weeks without guests. Can anything stink for more than two weeks? If I can thin out the mixture, maybe that might help dilute the stank. Or I might try to mix it with vinegar? That might kill the culture, but it might be worth a try.
