britta - It is still on the website, and I saw it in the store last time we were there in late August. Here is the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10123996/

10 Ways to Customize the Kura Loft Bed
11/18/12 11:33 AM

Perfect timing. I was just looking for Kura ideas this morning as I'm certain one is in our very near future.

Curious about two things for anyone who owns one: First, what age did you feel comfortable with your child using the upper bunk? Second, does anyone happen to have the dimensions of the ladder? I'm wondering if we could fit a queen mattress on the floor perpendicular to the top bunk, but the website doesn't have that information.

Love all these ideas! Timely, too. I bought some the other day and have no plan for it yet.

We have a few kinds and the Plan Toys food is my favorite. The ikea stuff is also nice and inexpensive. Of course the M&D sushi is pretty cute. Both kids (3 and almost 1) love play food.

Very interesting! In our house papayas (no matter how big) tend to disappear without anything added or any more preparation than slicing in half and removing the seeds. Everyone from the 10 month old to my husband eats takes part. Perhaps someday one will last long enough to try some of these things. :)

One more thing! I've been making amazing smoothies with fresh grapefruit lately. I've been using some combination of yogurt, banana, avocado, berries, pears, etc. with grapefruit and they are delightful. The slight tang of the grapefruit balances is subtle and adds a nice twist. My 3 year old loves them too.

I was also thinking juicing and freezing for future use. The ice cube tray would be a great way to do it, then transfer to a freezer bag and label. I keep meaning to do this as I often end up forgetting to buy lemons and needing just a little lemon juice for a dish.

Wonderful post! We are in NYC where 3br apartments are rare and often quite a bit more expensive (think 100-200k more to buy or 500-1000 more per month to rent vs. a large 2br). We have a boy and a girl and would love a 3rd at some point. We like our apartment other than the lack of a 3rd bedroom - it's a very large 2br by NYC standards. If we can find a nice 3br that we like & can afford we will move, otherwise we will be looking for solutions for sharing. Since these are one time costs it's not a big deal - less than movers + a brokers fee.

Like others have said you don't really need anything. If you want the creamy texture avocado or yogurt both work well, but they will not be as sweet.

I work from home with my son nursing / napping in a wrap. Invest in some high quality carriers instead. I found ring slings and wraps the best for working at the computer. (My 9 month old is napping now while I am *working*.)

Just wanted to update after month one of attempting this and the kitchen version. I slacked off at the end of the month, but wow! The apartment is far cleaner on a daily basis, unlike when I tried to do everything together. 20 minute chunks in combination with having the small tasks broken down is very helpful. My approach has been to either complete the task or spend 20 minutes, whichever comes first. That means I don't always finish every task, but over a month it adds up. Plus I found myself getting to things that I always neglect, so those will not require such an effort the second time around. Additionally I like that since the tasks are nice small units I can easily knock out several on a day when I have time if I get behind. I will be working on customizing this for our family over the coming months.

We have very similar cabinets. Hate them. We are trying to figure out what to do to improve without too much of an investment since we may (or may not) be moving next year anyway. I love how the stripes does pull you away from the cabinets a bit. Wonder if something similar would work for us.

Both? Chemex was my go to for a long time, but with a toddler around the time involved wasn't working so well so I switched to french press since I can walk away while it brews. Love both. The cleaner flavor of the filtered chemex coffee is great and works really nicely for iced coffee, but the richness of the fp is great too. If time weren't an issue I would probably switch back and forth depending on my mood.

French Press or Drip Method: Which Has Your Heart?

I had a favorite for years - the one thing I took with me from my parent's kitchen when I went to college. It broke during a move, and I spent a few years looking for the perfect mug. Had to feel right in the hand. Had to be big but not too big, with the right height / width ratio. Had to have colors I wouldn't mind looking at, and ideally a pattern that was quirky without being annoying. I eventually settled on a nice one from fishs eddy with a neat design that fits into my interests. It's not perfect, but it has served me well for the past three years.

Love using dried chickpeas! We also do black beans a lot. I usually meal plan and use them in two meals (plus leftovers) and my 3 year old loves to snack on them plain. I only rarely use canned these days, but since I usually meal plan and am home during the day it is a lot easier. Plus they are organic (we get the arrowhead mills brand), and inexpensive.

Thanks! Will try this! I had a good system going for a while but it's starting to fall apart thanks to my younger child becoming more mobile and making it harder to get in longer stretches of cleaning. Also, I definitely have not been doing all of these monthly.

How To Clean Your Kitchen (and Keep it Clean) in 20 Minutes a Day for 30 Days

Our layout is pretty similar. I use the area closest to the window as an office area, separated by one side of an L shaped sofa. The sofa takes up half of the long wall on one side. Bookshelves line the other long wall and have a smallish dining table on that wall as well. We use the foyer as a playroom. There is one nice corner that is a little reading nook with floor cushions, and toy storage (ikea trofast) on one of the other walls, as well as the play kitchen. So far so good. I use book bins to have an assortment of books out and put the rest in the kids' bedroom, and a few other toys live in there (mostly because we have a 3 yo and a baby). We have a little hallway where strollers, coats, scooters, etc. live (thank goodness), but I think using part of the foyer space as a playroom is a great way to go.
