I LOVE sunflowers! I planted some red ones that are blooming now. They just make me so happy. They bring birds too, so it's a win-win.

These farm subsidies are tricky. Its easy to decry them but the truth is, if they go away, healthy food won't become cheaper, all food will become more expensive. Unless they come up with something that makes all food equally affordable, I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of removing or changing things.

Given the lobbying power of big farms however, I don't think we will see substantial change.

Unbelievable. I wish there were a bad experience list to put these stores on. If they're harassing you guys and the other poster, they're bad news and we should be warned of their behavior.

Good grief. I can't believe they were selling for $15 in the first place. I've been making my own shopping bags. Takes less than an hour and if you shop smart, you can make a shopping tote bag for about $2. You don't even have to buy a pattern. Some clever young craftster has posted a tutorial for a fabric shopping bag over at Craftster.org. You use a plastic bag you already have for the pattern.

I absolutely ADORE Cottage Living magazine. I love it even more than Dwell and that's saying a lot, lol.

I love the color. I'm seeing it everywhere lately. Okay, PierOne in particular with the discount stores offering their knock-offs, lol, but I still love it.

Wanted to see the chocolate on crepes, but the link doesn't work.

I'm bucking the trend and suggesting the substantial and oh so flexible Torrance Dining Table from Pier One. The online photo doesn't do it justice.

Great. It's dark and hot outside with thundershowers on the way. Oh well, it'll still be a decent holiday.

I have some beautiful hanging baskets that are filled with fake flowers. Last summer, the plants that were in the basket got fried. It's a west/south exposure and the fake flowers were a good solution. No one has yet noticed they were fake. If you get the good ones, they just look beautiful, not imitation.

Ah, that WONDERFUL Jersey corn. I swear it has to be one of the best corns grown in the USA. They don't call Jersey 'The Garden State' for nothing.

We're having a potluck. My dish is the absolutely delish Martha Stewart recipe for mac and cheese. Gruyere and white cheddar makes it expensive but it's totally worth it. I use sourdough bread to make the breadcrumbs out of and man do I get the compliments when I make it.

I've got one lone sunflower in the front of my stoop. I don't know what kind it is, only that it has multiple heads. The birds are going crazy over it. Absolutely love it and I get to watch them through my front window.

I made a to-do list/chart and I made it for a week at a time. There is no way I can get everything on the list done is one day and still have a life worth living, but with it being a week long list, I can get everything on it done at least once. I staple a month's worth of charts together at a time and date each chart. That way if I keep putting off a chore, I can keep track how long it has been since I've done it. The frig hasn't been cleaned in over a month, lol, but at least I know how long its been.

I hate lists but I've noticed if I don't use the chart, things start to look rather ratty around here. Sometimes I stay up an hour or two later than I would have just to get a few more things done on my list. I go to work later so I still get the sleep I need and things that need to get done get done.

Doesn't work for everyone but it works for me.

I've bought a couple of things from those info commercials and I've been pretty happy with most of them. Bought a food dehydrator years ago that worked well. Lost it after 4 or 5 moves but I enjoyed it while I had it. I bought a facial toner as well. It works great but it takes some time to use. About 45 minutes three times a week. I got great results and loads of compliments but I got burned out on how much time it took. I've also bought The Firm workout tapes from television and I'm very happy with those as well.

I won't mention the one or two things I bought that turned out to be incredibly awful, lol. I don't see them advertised anymore anyway.

I made one about a year and a half ago, as a way to beat the heat in my kitchen. We had just moved so I used a couple of moving boxes to make the solar oven and I went to the dollar store to buy cheap metal cookware. It worked fine with things like carrots, which were made extra sweet by the long slow cooking with no water. I had a hard time keeping my cardboard solar oven over 215 degrees, so I didn't trust it to cook meat but it cooked vegetables just fine. I ended up using my slow cooker plugged in outside for meat. When we moved into our new home the following spring, I was too busy working on the house to resume use of my solar oven. Now that the days are getting hot again though, I just may resume in a couple of weeks.
