I love this idea. I'm looking for an excuse to use some chalkboard paint in my apartment.
But an important, and generic, painting tip: do NOT wait for the paint to dry before removing the tape! If the paint dries completely, then paint on the tape will pull the adjacent paint of the surface. You want the paint to be at least a bit wet when you take the tape off.

The thermostat needs to have air circulating around it in order to work; that's how it knows what the temperature is, and when to turn the heat on and off. By the looks of it, the box doesn't have any holes in it or any way to let air in. Holes along the bottom and top would probably do the trick.

From the government web site dedicated to this topic
(http://www.dtv.gov/consumercorner_3.html):

Does the DTV Transition Affect TV Sets That Are Connected to Cable Services?

No. If you subscribe to cable service, the DTV transition should not affect any TV sets that are connected to your cable services.

When I moved into a new apartment last summer, my ex kept the bed. I bought a futon and put it on the floor, and I love it. It works perfectly for me. The floor is fairly clean, and frankly, even if your bed is raised up, your feet still go from floor to bed, whether its a few inches or a foot up, so I don't think it is any less hygienic (or gross) than a mattress on a bed frame..
Does it look "unfinished"? I suppose... but my life is unfinished, so why shouldn't my home be as well?
Is it "tacky and cheap"? I've been called worse!

I think its a great solution. The only thing I miss is the under-bed storage! Yes, my joints creak and groan when I get up in the morning... but middle-age is doing that, not the bed!

I don't speak German either, but I speak English quite well, which allowed me to read on the linked web site that these are for peeling potatoes, not washing them.

:-)

I run all year round in New England. Last winter I ran when the wind chills were 10 below zero (that was an adventure!). It is only when the temps are single digits or below that I even wore a second layer. The reason: when you run, you generate a lot of heat!! Tights and warmer shirts are key, but not too warm. I see lots of people out in fleece vests and stuff, but i never need them. I DO have a variety of different running cloths, from very light weight to heavier, and that helps a lot. But you don't need to acquire the stuff all at once.

A couple of guidelines:
- a hat helps, and gloves... but don't get carried away. I never wear those when the temperature is above freezing. Most people really don't need them I think, and you WILL warm up (see below).

- When it is cool/cold out, remember: you will get warmer as you run, so if you are comfortable when you start, you will be too warm later on. You should be a bit chilly for the first five minutes. Have faith: you WILL warm up!

- Don't over dress; you really don't want to be sweating so much that your cloths get damp. With good wicking cloths that shouldn't be a big problem, but even the best moisture control cloths can't keep up if you are over heating.

And remember: its fun! It really is nice to be outside in the winter. Absolutely my favorite time to run is when it is snowing. There is nothing more beautiful.

Keep it up!

Not to be too much of a stickler for details, but its not a receiver that is needed to power the speaks, it is an amplifier. The thing that most people have in their living room includes a receiver, to receive and FM or AM radio signal, plus perhaps a pre-amp for a phonograph connection (since the record players output is distorted and needs to be modified before being amplified, or it will sound funny), CD connections, etc., and an amplifier, which, not surprisingly amplifies the electric signal for the speakers.

For the question at hand, it is possible to buy (or even build) an amplifier just for powering the speakers with out the AM/FM radio or other parts at all.

I LOVE Crescent Ridge!
I live in Sharon, and we go there all the time for their fresh homemade ice cream...

And the do sell plastic lids with a spout that goes on top of the milk bottle. through the magic of google, I found a place that sells them:
http://www.localamishfarms.com/glass_milk_bottles_for_sale.htm

and here is the cap I had in mind:
http://www.localamishfarms.com/pour_spouts.htm

I used to use a Crescent Ridge milk bottle to make cold-brewed ice coffee... but I had forgotten all about these lids. Now that is a really great idea...

I'm guessing it was holding on to the metal railing, not the electronics that got her in trouble. So I'd avoid clutching metal things connected to the ground during an electrical storm.

It was good of you to link to an abstract of the study. That is a rare and helpful thing to do!
When I read it, I found that, as you said, a plastic cutting board can not be manually cleaned, but that "Mechanical cleaning with a dishwashing machine can be done successfully with plastic surfaces." In other words, you can put your plastic cutting board in the dish washer and you WILL get it clean.
There was an earlier AT post on the topic of dishwasher versus handwashing dishes. The poster (may have been Maxwell) summarized the debate as (approximately) whether you define "clean" as free of grease or free of germs. Since very very very few of us would willingly dip our hands in a dishpan of water hot enough to achieve BOTH definitions of "clean", I would say that plastic in the dishwasher is going to be CLEANER than wood washed by hand for most people that aren't that guy on X-Men who burst into flames.

But I usually use a wood cutting board instead of the plastic one right next to it.
