I buy bulk toilet paper and paper towels. If I'm going to have a lot of people over I will always buy bulk for everything and use the remaining for just us. Other things I buy refills for or large versions: detergent, dish soap, hand soap, bath wash, shampoo, conditioner, shower spray, stain remover, surface spray. I HATE running out of things so I'd rather find room for extras then have to run out to the store for a box of tissues in the middle of allergy season. I've definitely found a cost savings. This is for two adults living in less than 800 sq. feet. Small Home Living: Do You Buy in Bulk? |

Feral parrots might be the weirdest thing I didn't know about our apartment when we moved in. They are all over parts of the LA eastern suburbs, but I had no idea they would perch in the tree outside of my bedroom morning and start squawking at 7am. Good thing I have to be up that early most days and it seems that squirrels have kept them away lately. The Things You Didn't Know When You Moved In |

The vertical blinds and no storage in the parking space were my secondary deal breakers. But ample storage in bathroom, bedroom and kitchen won me over! Dealing With Secondary Deal Breakers | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

We had pretty strict requirements for being close to transit, which in L.A. is pretty difficult to find. I considered moving into large corporate complexes, but was trying to avoid it. We found a 19 unit complex, two blocks from the train station, with brand new flooring, appliances and cabinets throughout. Although the outside is awesomely 70s retro the interior feels like it's brand new and being the first person to move in after the remodel is great! Although I sometimes sigh at the vertical blinds, I can't but beam every time I get to use my brand new stove or dishwasher! When You Know, You Know | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

I would recommend visiting the apartment at different times of day to see how noisy/busy it is during the day vs. night vs. weekends. I would also make sure to ask about the street parking situation. Negotiating is key in this economy, the apt. was $1395/month and I asked for $1300/month or a shorter lease term. Also, verify everything in the listing to ensure it's accurate. For example, the listing said it came with 2 spaces but it only came with one. Anything that isn't used up or too old to work still. I have leftover toiletries, makeup, nail polish, cleaning supplies, gifts (that I never use), candles, etc. I've always had a lot of room to store stuff and I am good at organizing, but I tend to want everything to be like a store always with some back stock, since I hate running out of things. I also feel bad buying new stuff for my home, if the current stuff still works i.e. towels/sheets/blankets/kitchen utensils. So I end up with like 5 of everything.
