...additionally, the Lighting Facts label on lamps is a pretty handy thing. It's on literally every light bulb package, and lists both lumens and color temperature.

The wattage equivalencies here are off. 40W equivalents are 7-9W for LEDs and CFLs; 60W is 10-13 (14 at the very high end).

As others have mentioned, equally important is color temperature (kelvins). This is especially important to look for when switching from incandescent to CFL/LED, as the latter tend to be colder (3000 kelvin) versus the warmer incandescent standard of 2500-2700 kelvin.
