Or, if you listen to Alton Brown, bake cinnamon rolls. Yeasty, sweet, cinnamon-y goodness.

Does the naturally colored cake turn brown if you use aluminum-free baking powder? I know aluminum was the culprit for turning my carrot bread a nasty looking green. I was wondering if there is a similar reaction at work here.

My cats go nuts when they encounter real meat. I give it to them as a special treat when I've been cooking and have scraps left. But the responsibility, expense and time required to formulate a suitable daily diet is more than I can take on.

I don't use a garlic press and don't stress too much about my knife skills. When I need a clove, I peel off the paper and lay it on the cutting board. I place the flat of my chef's knife on top, give it a quick whack with my hand, then roughly chop the resulting smashed garlic. Works for me.

At our house, we use a large mug as a gravy boat. It's an homage to my aunt who one year took it upon herself to prepare all of Thankgsgiving dinner for a large extended family, from appertizers to dessert. When they all sat down, instead of thanking my aunt, one snooty relative scoffed at her lack of a proper gravy boat on the table. To remember the ridiculousness of that exchange, we use our best china every year, polish the good silver, and use a mug as a gravy boat. It makes us smile.

I was under the impression that bagasse was used as a fuel source to power the sugarcane factory. Any word on whether this product is made from excess material or not?

Whenever I get a nice bunch of carrot greens, they go into my stockpot. They produce a rich brown, carrot-y stock that is just delightful.

The first time I encountered sour cherries was in my CSA box last year. I didn't know what they were, so I just bit into one. That made for quite a surprise...

I think the point here is that we generally associate cured meats with breakfast. Beef and pork have traditionally had many cured applications (sausages, ham, bacon), but chicken has not. Chicken sausage is frequently seasoned more for use in lunches and dinners than breakfasts.

Depending on how you look at it, though, we do commonly have chicken for breakfast, in the form of eggs.

A diffuser need not be a separate kitchen gadget. I have used a cast iron pan with a larger radius than my cooking vessel as one in the past, and it works out rather well.

For me, it comes down to the cute to delicious ratio. Ostrich, chicken, beef, and fish are much more delicious than cute. Rabbit is much more cute than it is delicious.

When I was growing up, I rarely knew of any steak that was not London Broil. We never marinated it, just brushed it with some worchester sauce and into the broiler. These days, I do use some marinade to soften it up and add flavor, but it still goes under the broiler and gets cut into thin slices. Very tasty main dish!

Does anyone know of a similar service for the outer boroughs of NYC? I'm part of a CSA and love it, but my mother is disabled and can't do the traveling or volunteering required for participation. Still, she wants to be involved in local foods and supporting farmers. Thanks!
