My little guy (a little over one) thinks its the stairway to the stovetop. He keeps climbing it, even when he can't reach the counters from it. How long until he's sitting cheerfully?

What about replacing the clouds with an abstract sunset? You could do bands of color in maroon, gold, orange, cream, etc. that would go with your furniture. They wouldn't have to be very perfect, and retaining a celestial theme might please the landlady. What's wrong with the clouds is the hard bright blue and . . . hmm . . . they're trying a little too hard. I also say no high furniture in the nook. Lounge in it!

High-gloss black or dark brown or dark, dark red would look fabulous. You could even add silver or gold accents if you're feeling bold. Teeze's idea sounds like a wower.

Yes, the one in E'ville requires potty-training. There's a pretty narrow height window, too.

I go to IKEA for the food sometimes. Like the childcare, it's an ingenious way of drawing us in.

We down-sized into a 75" sq. bedroom, and I love it. No TV, no laundry pile, no work waiting to be done -- just bed, books and windows to let morning light in. I haven't yet learned to live that simply in the rest of the house, but I'm working on it.

Good luck! I agree with Standup -- having your newbieright there reduces anxiety AND midnight walking.

We just moved our mattresses to the floor for crawling-baby safety and I love it. The room looks bigger, the bed is quieter, and its like rolling into a marshmallow pudding at night. We are taking extra steps to air the mattresses out regularly, though. It makes me wonder what other normal items of furniture we could do without.
