A year ago, I would have thought okay, maybe to make bland chairs look more interesting? But now I have beautiful wood floors and a vintage metal chair with worn out plastic feet. So hell yes! However, I can knit my own socks thank you. Or maybe sew some up out of some worn out personal socks if I'm really pressed for time.

We cheaped out on everything except the rocker/swivel chair which was from IKEA now called the Arvika, but I could have sworn it was called something else and came in orange 4 years ago. Husband thought I was crazy, but he likes it too. It's still in her room today, and hopefully will be something she likes through the teen years. If not, I've got room elsewhere in the house.

I really needed this a couple of months ago, but am glad to see it covered. We went with the Sparrow because I saw other Oeuf furniture and thought it was built really well. Anyhoo, I do think it's funny about the outgrowing of twin beds. We don't have room for a full, but I did grow up with one because my mom co-slept until I told her to get out. I'm short, so I can't speak to growing out of it. It was nice, but yes, I agree with KATALYST, they'll just go off to experience a XLongTwin when they go off to college. So why get used to the space?

Glad to see this. We found weeds growing in our real gutters today. Now we know it can look good if we do it on purpose attached to our deck.

I agree with most of the comments above. We got lucky and have a kid that will mostly listen if we tell her to leave something alone, but I know this is different for everyone. I hardly have to babyproof exept when guests come over.
Also, I grew up with a grand piano and don't recall making any damage. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how my mother did it.
If you still feel the need to do something, at least when playdates happen, I went to one recently where the parents took a large piece of cardboard that was taller than their kid could reach and wrapped their wall of bookcases to create a barrier. On the cardboard, the kid was allowed to draw all over it. It seemed a fun way of tackling the problem.

If my daughter ever gets into Barbies, I'd gladly get her this one. Although, I don't personally have a tat, I see them every day on perfectly respectable people including many of the moms of my daughter's friends.
Otherwise Barbie itself doesn't bother me. It's a fantasy toy, not really different than say a made up avatar. (Seriously, the hair on this doll reminded me of an encounter with a cousin's child who fought with me for 10 minutes because I gave my wii avatar a different hair color than my real one. I worry so much more about the kids who are rigid or maybe have no imagination.) I had a one growing up and have found no lingering issues about my body. I think teen beauty magazines were more dangerous.

I'm getting a work cubicle vibe. Maybe if the line starts branching out into some other colors?

Nowdays, I mostly craft at night, but there are a couple of other times I'd like to add.

When the babe used to nap in the car a few times per week, I'd bring along my knitting and get lots done while I was waiting for her to wake up.

Now that the babe is a toddler, other mom friends with kids about the same age have noticed that the kiddos will keep each other distracted while we work on our own crafts. We've had many craft oriented playdates.

The babe is 14 months old. My wallet is at the top of the list. If I need her to play quietly for five to ten minutes, I give her my wallet. Fortunately, there's only two pockets and a minimum of cards, so it's not too hard to put it back together. She like both landline phone and iPhone. She like remotes, but I think she really is trying to turn them on. We think she's trying to turn on the Atari Flashback II and play Centipede. Of course there are also shoes, socks, lids to pans, any container with a lid to take on and off, and any bags with a handle that she can carry all over the house.

I agree with TheLittlestChicken. Maybe for $10. I once had to make pureed food in my mother-in-laws kitchen. It was an aggravating experience even though she had all the tools there. Because it was her kitchen and she was trying to be so helpful, we had to do things her way. If I had one of these, I could have saved her effort and mashed up whatever was on my plate. (Granted what she told me she was going to make, was not what she made which caused further confusion. Turned out our dinner was more mashable than what she offered for the baby.) Anyway, this tool might have been nice for that transition between the "jarred food is too runny" and "the food is taking so long to cut up that the baby's getting upset" phase. BTW, some jarred food tastes heinous, and they're heavy to carry. This would give an alternative to that.

I read an article about that recent finding about television and decreased child vocalizations. It was my impression that the theory about why it's a problem is that having the television on cut into the amount of time the parent and child interact. The study involved recording what the kids heard throughout the day. If there was audible television, they found that the adult word count went down considerably.
In our own life, we rarely park her in front of the tv. We have run foreign language videos. She loves when we play video games for her. She does play with my laptop. However, I think that as long as we keep talking to her, a little exposure isn't going to harm her in the long run.

We have the pink iPig. At first I thought it would have terrible sound like many novelty speakers, but I read a lot of good reviews that changed my mind. Even my hubby who thought I was nuts when I ordered it. Once he stuck his iPod Nano in it, he was in love. Even in it's small size, we find it works well for our roughly 500 sq ft living room/dining room.

I split my 10 clip photo mobile too into 4 clip and 6 clip mobiles. Then I took IKEA sea creature finger puppets and hung them over our daughter's changing table.

I have a baby almost 7 months old & about the same size. Around 4 months, our DD was so big that her Fisher Price bouncy chair became more of a hammock than a chair.
We have a BebePod, like a Bumbo, and hardly ever use it because I'd rather have her sit on the floor with a Boppy around her where she can get more movement. Also, with cloth diaper and chubby thighs, we'd really have to wedge her in the BebePod.
If we want her to sit somewhere where she can't get anywhere, we're more likely to use her high chair. Otherwise, we use an exersaucer if we want to put her somewhere a little more entertaining. Okay, not stylish, but I think there was an earlier topic on Ohdeedoh about finding a not ugly exersaucer. We also have a Fisher Price swing in which the seat is removable and turns into a baby seat or toddler rocker. Also, not stylish, but the above slipcover idea could work.
It's an awkward time, right now, but it'll pass. I don't know how close your babe is to sitting up, but with ours, it was as if a switch got turned on. I wouldn't spend any money on a chair just for this age. If anything, spend it on pillows and baby gates.

First of all, no one says that it has to be the recipient that comes up with the idea. A well meaning friend or relative can spread the word about the idea.
Also, this is an easy way to keep people from giving pot roast to a vegetarian or cheese sandwiches to someone who's lactose intolerant, etc. If there's anything worse than micromanaging, it's throwing out someone's made with love meal b/c you can't eat it.

Cute, but wouldn't you end up with the same problem as when you started. For a handmade sweater, (it did matter on this one b/c the front neckline is lower, but you can't easily tell b/c it's a turtleneck) I once took some thread in a different color than the sweater and made a little "X". Voila, the "X" marks the back.

I once thought a sleep positioner would be helpful until I found my daughter could completely wiggle out of it and end up with her head between the wedges, which was probably more dangerous than without the device. This sleep wrap device seems like just one more thing the baby could get tangled up in.

I've been going through a post-partum crafty phase too. Mostly, I've been making practical stuff like burp clothes, reusable cloth diaper wipes, or new pillow covers. Now, I want to make something cute, such as a baby sweater.

Ooooo. I was thinking about using these to corral my stuff that I have around when I nurse the baby so that I can set up anywhere in the house.

I had used BioKleen or Country Save for years before I found out that it's also great to use on the babe's clothes and diapers. BioKleen also has a really good stain remover treatment called BacOut that's safe to use on the little one's diapers.
