infact, most pallets aren't even treated anymore seeing as they often have very short lifespans. I've contacted 3 pallet makers in the area, and all of them say they cut the treatment out of their process to save money and avoid hazardous materials on their jobsites.

lets not forget, this is a start to a good idea, it doesn't have to be done with pallets, it could be reclaimed from fencing, or an old deck, or ripped down framing lumber. The other thing is that the average person trying this would most likely be into wood working in the first place, and most likely has the ability to plane it down, or get a heavy duty sanding pad to smooth it out.

The idea here, 13ft, is just that... an IDEA.. doesn't mean you have to run with it the way you see it, it's open to modifications! And just like sarahrae said, i'd much rather the beginning of an idea of how to reuse these things then tossing them in landfills.

sadly i think eBay these days is the best way to go. Even collectors shop on eBay knowing they can find rocking deals. Yes, place a reserve on it, but be realistic, and don't forget to make sure the bidder pays shipping.

Sorry for your loss, i can't imagine the day i'll have to be doing the same thing. (and god knows how much "stuff" my parents have amassed over the years....)

and yet $650 is still way too much for such a plain simple box. DWR is supposed to stand for "Design Within Reach" It should be "Design Within Reach of Someone Else's Wallet"

i can't see how this is going to be cost efficient. the part that throws me off a bit is "parts are melted into blocks and then sliced to create a lightweight textured tile" so you've recycled a part and then used large amounts of energy just to slice it into tiles? it's a really nice look, but doesn't seem very green other then the recycling portion. might as well be melting down coke cans and reusing those.

these are all WAY WAY overpriced. there's NOTHING in these that warrants a price tag in the hundreds of dollars... it's insane

everyone needs to check out artificialowl.net then!! this however is amazing, if not given to the homeless (even if outdated, i doubt they care about that!) then it should be shredded up and used for things like blown insulation!

SUPER nice, but not worth a 1/4 of the price being asked for those. I don't understand how lighting is SO expensive for such simplistic styles.
