There are already lots of great suggestions here so Im problem being repetitive. I think a fleshy, orangey pink would look great with gray or navy or brown. A punchy hot pink, maybe a little more towards red would work great with other bold colors like yellow and cobalt blue if that's the kind of pink he likes. Maybe striped curtains or bedding? Peach, faded red and cherry seem more masculine if you want to spin it that way for your husband. My husband likes pink a lot. He has a couple of light, faded pink shirts and one hot pink shirt. I'm curious how he would react if we had a son that wanted a pink room. We just have a daughter now and he really wants her to have a pink room. Someone above mentioned a play tent. That's a great way to add a lot of color with an inexpensive span of fabric (even a sheet, curtain or tablecloth could be turned into a tent with some dowel rods or PVC pipes).

One more thing - are there any colors that are not socially acceptable for girls? I'm curious why girls/women are allowed to wear gray, brown, black, all shades of blue, etc. and no one thinks twice but if a boy/man wears pink or purple he gets raised eyebrows.

Another vote for the Twilight Turtle here and a fun mobile. Great distractions for putting down an awake baby and helping her learn to fall asleep on her own. We had a twin bed in the nursery that we used more than the rocker as a place to sit and cuddle and play and read books. It was also our changing surface with a few blankets stacked at the end with a basket for diapers and wipes for quick grabbing. I also like having an open basket for bibs and another for burp cloths—two items we're grabbing all day long. We're believers in cribs and our kids learning to sleeping in their own room and bed from the beginning so a crib was another essential for us.

I never would have made that association if I hadn't seen the title of this post first. Now, that's all I can see with the air vents near the ceiling and the industrial style light fixture. Poor kid lives in an institution… I seriously love the color, though, especially as a gender neutral choice for a nursery. But now it's ruined for me. ;)

Side note: isn't light green chosen for hospitals, dentist offices, musicians' "green room" back stage, etc. because it's considered a calming color? Sounds like a perfect reason to put it in a home, especially a child's room or a bathroom.

Really nice color combination. I love the subtle pink and dark gray. Anyone have a source for this chandelier? I love it!

It seems fitting for a girl named Bijou to have a dinosaur tea party. I bet this girl is all kind of fun!

My mom sucked her thumb until she was 5. Her mom tried a metal thumb contraption (she just sucked other fingers) and hot sauce but neither worked. What finally did the trick: they told her she wouldn't be allowed to go to school if she sucked her thumb. She wanted to go so badly, she quit. And took up nail-biting.

This is really lovely and clever! It still looks like an intimidating amount of sewing and cutting but what a wonderful handmade gift.

Hey, that's my house! ;) I can confirm that it's from IKEA. I'm glad @wanderluster knew the name because I don't.

Beautiful room! Love the colors and all the thrifted and personalized details. I have to admit the turquoise and orange and the name Ross totally had me thinking this was a boy's room until I read the interview and saw the lower photos. She's a beautiful little girl. :)

Thanks for all the kind words! We've had our first little kiddo with us for 5 days (a little girl about 1.5 years old) and she seems to love it all so far! And we love her! We feel very blessed to have this chance to love her, even if it's just for a short time.

@chana we did have another friend warn us about the guitar being a temptation and little girl has taken an interest in it (though it's too high for her to reach or get to on her own right now.) She seems to love the monkey poster. @prairiegirlindc I used white contact paper. Cheap, easy to clean. Works for me! It's a little opaque but that doesn't bother me.

1420 sq ft mid-century ranch here. It's perfect for two of us and we could probably make it work with a couple of little ones but we're hoping to add on in a few years as our family grows. We dream of adding 1000 sq ft.

This is the room that originally inspired me to do book ledges in our kids room. I love it! The giant dollhouse is amazing and even more special because it was his mom's.

Really beautiful, simple, clean room! I also love the names Everett and Elliot. (I personally would never think of these as name for a girl, @Allie_P.) Great job!

Some friends in our neighborhood live on a busy corner across from a park and have had their newly planted scrubs stolen 3 times! The last time the trunks were all chained together with braided steel cables. The chains were cut! They installed a fake security camera with a motion activated flashing light and waited until a Monday to plant new plants. So far that has helped. It's been extremely frustrating and expensive for them.

We have beautiful landscaping (thanks to my husband, so I can brag!) and a lot of unique plants. I think our best deterrents are that our house is further from the street but close to our neighbors on both sides (who are home a lot). We also have landscape lighting that's on from sundown until 4 or 5 am so our landscaping is very well lit.

Cutting off flowers is not a problem I've heard of around my neighborhood but I can't say I haven't been tempted myself!

Yeah, that sounds quite a bit like our situation. We usually do everything together and our nursery/kids room was mostly my design ideas and labor. He did help me decide on a paint color (gray), do the painting, assemble all the furniture and install a new light fixture. For the most part, though, his nesting urges seem to be an urgency to finish every home project we've started or even thought about doing. (Painting the rest of the house, finishing our privacy fence, installing an attic fan, landscaping projects…) He says it's so he has more free time for fun, family activities once we have kids.

Solution For Missing Dresser Drawer?
Good Questions

Wow, lots of great suggestions here! Thank you all. A couple of little clarifications: We use this as the dresser in our bedroom. It was found over a year ago in a city we were visiting so no chance of going back. The drawers are all solid wood with no metal tracks or hardware so there is already kind of a shelf there, with a wood rail down the middle.

sara.b. I really like your idea of taking all 5 drawers out and using that space for bookshelves, then creating a new piece of furniture for the 5 drawers. That way we don't lose the drawer space or do anything to further damage the vintage piece.

I also like the suggestions of taking out all the drawers on one side and adding a door instead. I hate to waste 2 drawers but maybe we can repurpose them into 1 or 2 nightstands to match.

And thank you to whoever said they have a very similar looking credenza that is Bassett. I had been wondering for a long time.

Saving up $200ish for a custom drawer to match is still an option (that much because of the unique wood handle) but I love all the creative solutions everyone is coming up with. Thanks!
