Looks good, but I'm wondering if the glass will get hot from the flame?

Rouxbe is amazing. My sister bought me a 3-month subscription for my birthday and I'm secretly hoping someone will renew it for me for Christmas. They break down the steps so well, and include all basics - stocks, sauces, various cooking methods, etc. I'm an experienced cook but I still learned and refined lots based on Rouxbe. I highly recommend it!

As seen on AT in the past: another tip is to use boxes or, in my case, phone books, under the tablecloth to give nice height to platters without using cake stands.

I find it helps guests serve themselves better because one can be taking from the back platter while the other takes from the front one.

Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Get Organized! Using Evernote in the Kitchen

I've been using Evernote for a while. It doesn't have a great user interface. In fact, it's pretty clunky and annoying. Having said that, I stopped using it for daily lists and "to dos" so I don't really have to interact with it too often. Now I'm using it as a storage app just like this article suggests.

I drag the url's right onto the icon in my dock and delete out any unnecessary headers, advertisements, etc. I also use it to store pdfs of recipes that I've scanned from magazines and cookbooks. Then, it's super easy to search. I even add my fave AT articles - especially "round-up" ones like best vegetarian recipes, for example.

The clunky user interface is supposedly being redone, so I'm looking forward to that at which point I may use it more on a daily basis, instead of just as an archive.

We've always made a paste of sour cream and flour to thicken soups or sauces. It works really well. Be careful when heating the soup/sauce with the added flour as it can burn quickly and stick to the bottom of the pot.

The butter version sounds great too - I'll have to try it for when I don't want a creamy application.

I gave up sugar and chips/snacks.

I'm allowing myself honey, maple syrup, agave, and brown rice syrup though. So I can still make banana bread, eat my own yogurt sweetened with agave, and make maple syrup salad dressing for my lunches.

I cut it into wedges, "filet" the flesh off the hard skin, then shred it using my food processor. I freeze the shredded pumpkin in 2-cup or 4-cup batches. Then all winter I make pumpkin breads, muffins, pies, and cookies. I usually get 10-20 zip-top bags out of one pumpkin!!

Pureed mango with ginger and yogurt is my favourite. I also make them with any left-over liquid from pie fillings, jams, and other berry toppings - I just strain out the excess juice and pour it straight into popsicle molds.

These are great on a hot summer day (especially since we don't have AC!)

Other: I grow rosemary, oregano, dill, cilantro, parsley, thyme, sage outdoors in my garden and I buy basil and others at Farmer's Markets.

My tip: don't baby the herbs. They're pretty hardy and don't need too much looking-after.
