Thanks so much for all the great comments! About the crazy lamp ... it's a "tulip lamp" with acrylic string or "spaghetti" shades, ca. 1950s. An unusual choice for the room, perhaps, but my boyfriend loves it with a passion -- and since it's his living room too, well, what the heck. The happiness it provides more than makes up for the ding in our decor score. In case Carla is not able to locate that paint can, my bedroom is painted what appears to be a very similar color, Benjamin Moore's Kittery Point Green, and I absolutely love it. It goes from a pale pistachio color in the bright morning sun (my BR faces east) to a color similar to these pix at mid-day, and then to a richer blue-green at night under artificial light. "White appliances" are your biggest embarrassment? Why? They brighten the space and look great with the white subway tiles. Please, don't be embarrassed just because you aren't able jump on the stainless steel bandwagon. That stuff is OK, but not for everyone. Find your own best solution! So, exactly how eye-popping does it have to be in order to qualify as "color"? Is there no "color" in a pale winter landscape or a cloudy sky? I'm a minimalist and my boyfriend is a collector. Our relationship would never have survived without a large, rented storage unit.
