We have a foam mattress. Definitely recommend something over the slats. I used simple plywood.

I've got one of those black pebble mats in my bathroom. I like it...morning foot massage, but I've got 3 caveats:

1) It's a bear to keep clean. Stuff gets down between the stones and the backing tends to hold onto it. After a week or two, it starts to look grungy. Which leads to:

2) It's pretty heavy, being, you know, rock and all. Don't make one bigger than you can comfortably lift.

3) My 6 year old definitely doesn't like it. It would seem the pebbles aren't a comfortable size for little feet.

P.S. - The one I have has a backing sorta like a very thick landscape mat. Tough and lets water evaporate. I think making it with a rubber backing would cause a mold/mildew issue.

I'm looking for such in Atlanta....

I have one and haven't had any particular problems with it. It looks great on my front bistro table, but the charge doesn't last all that long. At the price I doubt I'll order any more, but I'm pleased with the one.

Gunk accumulates in any crevice, no matter if it's above or below the counter surface. Can't we just say undermounts just plain look better?

OMG! Almonds have cyanide in them! What would happen if my child ACTUALLY ATE ALMONDS! Won't someone THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

OMG! Pets drink anti-freeze and die! Anti-freeze is used almost exclusively in CARS! FORD and GM are PET KILLERS!

OMG! If you drink too much water, you can ACTUALLY DIE! Don't drink water, OR YOU COULD DIE TOO!

Actually, pretty much everywhere else in the country thinks you New Yorkers with your 500 sq ft homes are kinda strange :-). Here in Atlanta, houses over 2000 sq ft are the norm, and over 3500 sq ft are very common.

I live in by far the smallest house of all my family and friends. It's 1700 sq ft., but it's in an older, historic in-town neighborhood.
