This post made me laugh real loud! Here in Portugal we have a saying that means something like "there are no coincidences", but today, a major one occurred. I was having my breakfeast and watching a recorded episode of the show "Small Space, Big Style" (very cool and usefull!) and one of the tiny apartments belonged to an artist called...KRISTA PEEL! She lived in Chicago, then (i dont know when that episode was made), but her addiction to color was pretty obvious!!There was also a squares painting, and i LOVED the miniatures of rooms, they are very original!And...that's it! I just felt I should share this strange thing!

This is what i love about Apartment Therapy (not the flies, of course)!I had the same problem of Nakamova but it never crossed my mind that it could be caused by the potting soil i used!I'm not sure about that "mildly soapy water". What kind of soap should I use? Will it be safe for the plants? Keep up the good work, Apartment Therapists, you have a huge fan in Portugal!

Hi from Portugal! I think you should do both things: draw your own ideas then show them to an architect, to see if they are possible do come true. That's what i did when i decided to re-built my grandmothers house. I'm lucky to be friend of 3 architechts, each one in diferent stages of their careers, wich gave me several options. I think it's great to work whit someone that can understand your point of view, and i know that some architects dont respect that. If you dont know any, i advise you to be carefull when you choose your architecht. But the drawings are just the begining of a looooooong story...Sorry for my bad english...

Hi,
Im from Portugal, and the first Ikea store opened here about 5 years ago, and it was a blast on furniture industry in our small country. For bad and good reasons. People stop buying portuguese stuff and we find Billys and Pax wardrobes and Expedits EVERYWHERE! Portuguese furniture traders really felt the Ikea effect. On the other hand, the Ikea design inspired portuguese furniture industry and were we used to find awfull but full of quality design, we now find new pieces with fantastic look made with quality and reasonable prices...I just bought my first house and i must confess that im going to buy A LOT in Ikea but some pieces are made by a local carpenter, based on BoConcept, for example.(sorry for my poor poor english...)
