i've wanted to ask for a while now (since we see your lovely kitchen so often!) where is your little salt well from? the one that is rounded and bright yellow on the inside?

i like the spirit of this fast. still, as a media studies grad i feel compelled to suggest that it's really a screen fast, or perhaps even a work fast, and not a media fast that's being suggested. i understand the impulse to shut off the devices that ping us and step away from the urge to refresh email and facebook constantly. But, it seems like various forms of media--books, magazines, podcasts and music were mentioned--are considered more 'enriching' than the television, which i don't think is necessarily true.

those people wondering about what is technically 'allowed' and what isn't might instead want to think about how they'd want to spend an enriching evening, whatever that entails, and what activities make them happy, not just the activities that are done out of habit or lack of energy.

this is delicious. i needed a quick working lunch, and this was on the table in fifteen minutes flat. i subbed white onion for red [and caramelized it a bit for sweetness] and tiny zante currants for golden raisins. dried cranberries would have been good too.

i love this kind of recipe--a quick hot meal is so much better than a cold sandwich on cloudy days!

i love this too--brilliant idea to swap chairs for your very different kitchen and dining room tables. makes for a clean, deliberate, integrated look.

and ditto on having a dog chair unusable by humans. can't bring myself to get rid of mine either....

tartelette has a similar idea with her lavender oatmeal squares. i've been making these for a month or two now and they're super tasty, easy to throw together, and very filling. i will take a few on the train in the morning with my coffee.

the best part is that the recipe's flexible, so that you don't have to risk a breakfast rut-- i do a lot of substituting, adding flax, currants, cinnamon, walnuts....even a pumpkin version. but the lavender is my favorite!
