The public library provides free internet services and often classes on how to use it. (And yes, I get that there are barriers to getting to/using the public library, but it's still one of the best deals around.) Comcast & $10 Broadband for Kids in Need |

We have a number of local Mission Malls...where folks can donate to local charities and non-profits (like the library or united way). This has become incredibly popular and seems to be an "exceptable" gift idea. How To Guide Family Towards 'Less Is More' Gift Giving? Good Question |

:) for our last big party we bought coozies at the dollar store and sticky letters so everyone could make their own cup holder. Then everyone knew which cup was theirs and had a little something to take home. Hot Tip: Entertain With Style. No More Disposable Cups! |

It depends on the room. Personally I like light and bright in the kitchen and living room, but darker and relaxed in the bedroom. Lighter Isn't Always Better: Dim, Beautiful Rooms |

interesting use of felt. We live next to a highway and found that a layer of quilt batting behind our roman shades made a huge difference in the noise that came through. I would think felt would be equally, if not more, effective. Extra Loud Home Theater? Try Sound-Absorbing Blinds |

We live in Northeastern PA and have been "camping" in the yard most of the summer. We don't have air conditioning, so even when it's been hot-hot at night it's still cooler than the bedroom. We have Clark Jungle Hammocks that are actually tents (just google hammock camping) which helps when the bugs are bad. Would You Sleep Outdoors To Escape The Heat? |

been lugging the laundry to the "mat" for just over ten years. I can't wait until we have a W/D at home (should be some time this fall!!), I don't care what the cost. Laundromat vs. Home Laundry: Which Is More Frugal? The Simple Dollar |

I don't know about the rest of these, but I'd have to argue against planting crownvetch. Resilient is an understatement, this stuff is invasive. Think kudzu with a pretty flower. We live next to a highway where it is used as part of the median covering and it's all over our place...Unless you want a full time job keeping up with this stuff, pick something else. agree with aneelee. I'm a librarian and I love my nook. And I still love my local bookstore and the library. One does not negate the other. I'll soon be going to New Orleans for the American Library Association's annual meeting and I plan on bringing lots of reading on my nook which will leave room for all of the books I'll be buying! Yes, I have a list of bookstores to visit! :) A Bookworm's eReader Experience |
