I found space behind the wall of my tiny 8x5 bathroom when I renovated it. I put in some skinny, deep shelves between the studs.

I grew up eating salmon sandwiches for dinner on hot days. Good rye bread with a skim coat of butter, canned salmon, and sweet onions soaked in white vinegar.

As an adult, I appreciate how good salmon sandwiches taste with an icy beer.

I would invest in a lovely antique bread bowl rather than a stand mixer. It's very easy to make bread and knead it by hand.

Kale. No matter what it done to it, it tastes like wet cardboard.

Funny. This is the exact same recipe posted on Gluten Free Girl a few years ago. http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/2006/10/yum-yum-peanut-butter.html

Amanda Hesser, the NYT food writer, has a great oven fried chicken recipe that I've made many many times:

I strongly believe in the cranberry and seltzer cocktail (with a squeeze of lime). As my friends have gone through their pregnancies, it's been such a nice beverage to offer them. Festive and delicious!

After having a couple friends over for an impromptu dinner, I decided to make a quick batch of brownies for dessert. Soon after I stuck them in the oven, we started smelling something strangely burnt and chemical-like. It turns out, I'd left a roach trap in the oven...

I recently lost my All-Clad in a divorce settlement. And because I had to pay for replacements myself, I bought a set of the Calphalon Contemporary stainless steel pots and pans. To be honest, I think Calphalon is just as good as the All-Clad, and, dare I say, are more beautiful to look at.

I am a fan of the humble lemon zester.

I can hold the lemon with one hand, zester in the other, and it takes about a minute to zest a complete lemon. Sometimes I run a knife through the zest to mince it into little pieces.

I've never cut myself using it (which is always a plus with the acidic fruit).

I make my popcorn in big cast iron skillet, with a lid. The vents on the sides of the skillet allow the steam to escape, which makes for very fluffy tender popcorn. You just have to make sure you use enough oil to coat the kernals -- popcorn won't pop as well if you skimp.

Does anyone else wait for three kernals to pop before adding the rest of the popcorn?
