Well, one reason that curbing your pork intake might have an impact on the swine flu issue is the fact that there is reason to believe that the virus developed in a factory farm, thanks to the horrendous conditions. Not mention the antibiotics that factory farmed animals are pumped up with that you end up taking into your system that ultimately make antibiotics less effective. It's a shame that the media isn't looking more closely at the ways the food industry is making us sicker. If you must eat meat, buying it from smaller, local farms means taking money away from the factory system. Factory farms are only interested in efficiency and profit; our health, much less the comfort and dignity of the animals they breed, matters not a whit.

Everyone has mentioned that their prices are high, but no one has mentioned how relatively low the quality can be. Many times I've eyed something I LOVED in the catalogue, only to go to a store and see it in person and think it looked shabby and poorly constructed.

I've also always found their name laughably ironic--within whose reach exactly, those with immense disposable incomes and even more immense apartments? Don't get me wrong, most of their stuff is gorgeous and of impeccable quality. Just wish it was within MY reach!

Radley, I got it from Broadway Kitchens and Baths, 12th St and Broadway. It was custom-made and very reasonable (I think around $700). Of course the sink and faucet were separate expenses, but it's a nice piece.

Thanks so much for your thoughts everyone!!! I'm now leaning towards midnight blue for the walls/ceiling with yellow linens and a shower curtain with some yellow in it for some pop. But I'm also going to contemplate the whole cantaloupe issue. Very interesting. . .

beelzabean, my contractor made those cutouts for me. Making them didn't seem like too much work, though they did bitch about lining them with penny rounds :-)

So far, we haven't heard very much that's actually helpful in these comments.

I'm one of the people who finds the topic skeevy to the point of anxiety inducing. I wish At wasn't posting about it, and yet I can't help reading everything that comes through.

Aside from hermetically sealing your home and delousing yourself and your guests every time you walk through the door, what the $% can you do to prevent them? Anything? Are "they" developing improved ways to get rid of them that don't require buying all new stuff to replace everything that's in plastic quarantine for 2 years?!! Anything to share that's more optimistic, please?
