For all you Stanley-for-a-girl haters, don't forget that Stanley Ann is the name our [knock wood] future president's mother.

I love the slipcover. Babies don't need stimulation every second and, in any case, are quite stimulated by ordinary household items. And isn't human interaction better stimulation than a tacky blue bar of plastic dangling over their faces?

I just checked the Ikea website and it looks like they don't carry it anymore. It was great though -- a good canvas in multiple colors and two sizes (the photo shows the larger-scale print). And so cheap! Maybe your Ikea will still have it in stock, TammyE -- totally worth checking.

Is this copy just cut and pasted from their PR materials? Doesn't ohdeedoh (and AT) aim higher than just being a shill for $1,350 high chairs? Can't you even make a joke about the fact that it's a $1,350 high chair? (Which is not to say it's not gorgeous -- it is.)

I can't believe they're so pink and blue. It's retro in a bad way and just really disappointing and lame. I expected better.

This store is an absolute treasure. The prices are high but fair -- you certainly won't find a bargain, but you will find something amazing. The store is a great mix of completely unique items from the early twentieth century and fabulous design from the early post-war period, all presented with great care and love.

hejiranyc -- you must be kidding! NY probably has the best, most interesting cheap shopping in the country (well, if you consider options other than enormous chains like JCrew and Walmart). And, actually, even if you don't (HM, Zara, etc.).

Blah -- who cares? Boring crap and more congestion. North Ave there is already one of the least bike-friendly areas in the city (no shoulders and oblivious drivers). If it weren't for Sam's and Blick (well, and WF), the whole area would be worthless (and I do mean you, DWR). Well, I guess there are those strip clubs south of North . . . (kidding).

I've been using the Preserve for years, and actually just decided to stop. I like so much about it (everything mentioned above), but they have to be replaced far more often than other toothbrushes, which is not only expensive but also mitigates the eco-friendliness of it. I'll have to try Terradent though -- thanks for the hint, Daruma.

I just had this conversation with my boyfriend's family. I had never heard of it, but they -- Jews from Manhattan all -- didn't quite swear by it, but were certainly familiar with it as a way to bring out flavor, citing its similarity to (as mentioned above) cantalope and proscuitto.

Has anyone else (beside Sarah in Boston) had any experience with those Soda Club devices? They seem perfect in that you can use ordinary tap water. (MrGreen the point isn't avoiding tap water but rather getting carbonation *into* tap water for those who like, say, Campari and soda or soda with lime.) All the packing materials and shipping from Israel mitigates the benefits somewhat, but it's certainly better than the two cases of San P. I go through each month. I'd love to hear about more experiences with it.

What do restaurants do to carbonate their waters/sodas? Is that at all feasible to do at home?

Pixie -- isn't that that you can't bring more than 3 oz of *liquid*? I've never had a problem bringing an empty nalgene through security and filling it at a fountain at the gate. Have you had a different experience?
