How lovely, I would love to make something like this but beware, don't use pressure treated lumber on anything that comes into contact with your dirt. The chemicals in that stuff is NASTY. Make Your Own Kids' Garden Mom and Her Drill |

I recently solved this problem at my house which has a similar layout. First I built a TV stand that completely covered the non-functional fireplace. It was essentially a 20" high box with a back cover that extended up to the mantle. It makes viewing much easier on the neck. Then I added a shelf to the top of the bookcases to make it deeper and thats where the cable box, DVD etc went. Some of the cords can slide behind the TV stand. There was still a nest of wires that had to reside on one of the shelves so I bought some $1 books cut the spines off and created a fake book cover to hide the power strip. I wish I could post a photo of the before and after for a better idea. Good luck! Its not an easy problem to solve. Ideas for Cable-Hiding Conundrum? Good Questions |

The contestants choose the names and I picked it because we fell in love with the fridge after seeing it in the drab warehouse surrounded by it's white and stainless steel cousins. BTW why not just spray paint your fridge? Mayuko's "Orange Crush" Room Room for Color Contest |

The fridge only works for us because we have a separate freezer hiding in the laundry room (cheating I know). I cook a lot and there's always leftovers. Going on adding some more orange in the form of an enamel dutch oven but I don't want the room to be too matchy. I actually do own a Stokee but I got the green cushion. So glad to receive the positive comments! The fridge was from Sears outlet in San Leandro. The place is amazing and the salespeople were sad to see the little guy finally go. Mayuko's "Orange Crush" Room Room for Color Contest |

The springs themselves are covered in muslin and then tied together to make cushions of various sizes. If you want to look it up they are called marshall spring units. The unit is then covered in batting which can be wool or cotton and the fabric goes over that. From the upholsterers I have spoke to springs give a firmer feel and are more comfortable compared to foam. Sources for Wool-Stuffed Furniture? Good Questions |

I was in a similar situation after I read the Tribune article regardin this issue. I have a small toddler that crawls on the floor all day and I didn't want to expose her to these chemicals. We decided to go the vintage route due to budget. I found an old (pre-1975) sofa on CL that had a wood base and found an upholsterer who could do spring cushions instead of foam. Total cost will end up being around $1575 (sofa $275, fabric $500, re-uphostery $800) Could not find any new chemical free sofas at that price. Sources for Wool-Stuffed Furniture? Good Questions |

I have done this on a place that I own. It came off pretty easily and the difference is dramatic. A million times better after painting. The whole purpose was to hide sloppy drywall joints in cheap buildings, but my ceiling was pretty flat so it didnt matter. It may be the reason the landlord won't allow it. It dosen't hurt to ask though because none of the other solutions seem half as nice. How To Mask Popcorn Ceiling? Good Questions |

Hey! You posted my photos. Thanks for all the props. Actually this garden is the result of 2 years of hit and miss. When I moved in the patio looked like a beige prison cell. Really depressing with no views so I created one. I had to experiment with what plants would work with the limited sunlight I get and I killed a few things before it got to this. I'm always changing it around so it looks a little different now. I live across the street from a Longs Drug that has an amazing garden center and almost all my plants are from their markdown section. Every time I think I can't fit any more I manage to squeeze some more on this 11 x 11 deck. I think the final touch will be a fountain of some sort. (Full disclosure: I have a satellite dish in there too so it's not all rainbows and puppies) Apartment Therapy San Francisco | SF Flickr Finds: Superasiaone's Garden |

Yes! I'm a San Francisco native that just recently made the move to Rockridge to the ridicule of all my friends but you know what? I don't miss the city. The weather is nicer, BART is a short walk, grocery store is right across the street and I can actually grow plants here. Watch out for my entry in this years garden contest! Our condo complex has a pool and for the first time in my life I can actually get a summer tan if I wanted. You guys in SF don't know what your missing. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | AT on... I would be careful about tearing walls down. I recently did a kitchen remodel in my condo and wanted to tear a wall down but I couldn't do it. It turned out to be a major structural wall and couldn't be touched. It also housed a internal vacuum which I never use, a phone jack, electrical switches and an outlet. Hopefully you'll be luckier than me but at the least it looks like you'll lose a phone jack and heater. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | SF Good Questions: What Should I Do With My Galley Kitchen? |
