I find some of these comments rather ironic, unless they were all written by non-meat-eaters. I don't eat meat and don't wear fur but I recognize that it can be done in a respectful way (just as the opposite can be true). Green? Well I guess that depends on a number of factors related to manufacturing. It's a silly ad. Apartment Therapy Re-Nest | Green or Not: Fur?! |

I second many of the other comments here (esp. re: taxidermy and the tendency toward the twee) but also want to add that if I see another poster saying "Keep Calm and Carry On," I'm going to lose it. I agree with heathermg. Having a cleaning person really can help a relationship. After living with my totally adorable packrat/slob of a husband for a year, I began to seriously resent that most of my weekend was spent cleaning. We agreed to hire someone and now when I come home every second Friday the house looks lovely. I start the weekend happy -- it allows me to tackle the bigger chores (gardening, sewing, redecorating the kids' rooms) that would otherwise get neglected while still feeling like I've had some "down time". If you can manage it financially, why not? p.s. My housecleaner is a wonderful woman who is going for her citizenship next week. Our relationship is one of mutual respect. After all, she's helping me maintain my marriage! Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | On Hiring Cleaning Ladies... |

I liked the "Enchanted Forest" as I appreciate a sense of humor about a trend that's not going away soon. I like the modern organic look; it just so played out right now. I like some aspects of "Shanghai Modern" (anything black lacquer!) and agree with what was said about China in general. "Americana" was a little underdefined and strangely lacking character and "French Neoclassicism" is just not my taste. I'm waiting for "Amsterdam: Old is New" to make its way to the U.S. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | LA Times HG 1.3.2008 |

If you want to use Swiffer in a more environmentally friendly way, I suggest using moistened rags. We cut an old t-shirt into pieces and use them instead of the Swiffer sheets (for floors AND cobwebs around ceilings). You can wash and reuse them as many time as you want. Some things are way overpriced (tacky plastic laminated dining table for $500? crappy old computer that doesn't work?) but there are finds to be had. Especially if what you're looking for is not "obviously" valuable to whoever's doing the pricing. We got a beautiful danish modern-type credenza in good condition for $65 and for a small extra fee, they even delivered it. Apartment Therapy - St Vincent De Paul Thift Warehouse |

I read Real Simple and, while some things are not to my taste, I appreciate the "living in the real world" attitude. My fave regular features are "new uses for old things" and "fake it; don't make it." Real Simple Magazine July 2007 |
