Oh wow, it should be so obvious but this never occurred to me before. I'm definitely going to put this tip to good use.

Love these ideas! We're having my son's 5th birthday party at a local horse ranch next week - I may have to copy the bandana party favor approach!

I second Alicelost's request - a very good idea.

I really like this kitchen, pretty much everything about it! The floors are awesome, I love the checkered look in colors other than the standard black/white. A question for Annette or anyone else with linoleum: do you need to do any special polishing or maintenance to keep them in shape?

I made this today, and had a couple of little hiccups. I couldn't get it rolled out to 9 X 30, more like 6 X 20 - the dough would sort of bounce back or just rip when I tried to go any further. Maybe I over-did the kneading?

I pressed on anyway, formed the wreath and refrigerated overnight, then left it out on the counter for 45 min before baking. I guess it was still cold in the middle, because it needed 45 min at 350 - after 25 min, it was still not done in the middle.

It looked and tasted good in the end, but I found it very, very sweet. I might skip the glaze if I make it again in the future.

I love them simply tossed with olive oil, salted, then roasted. I never have so many around that I'm wondering what else to do with them - they go fast!

Sometimes seeing is better than reading. I got more out of Melissa Clark's pie crust video on the NY Times website than from any recipe or article I've seen:

melissainsaintlouis, I made these the other day and used unsalted since that's what I had on hand, and they were delicious.

I have to agree with previous posters that this recipe makes way too much glaze, though. I halved the whole recipe and should have done just a quarter of the glaze.

What perfect timing - came across this with a craving for cookies and no butter in the house. They were easy and turned out delicious.

I really like the idea of a toilet seat that works for adults and small kids, especially potty training, without having to snap big accessories on and off. Even now that my son is fully potty trained, he's still small enough that he could fall in if he doesn't sit just so. However, I find this design very confusing. I don't see any "seat indents" here, and what's so icky about touching a toilet seat lid in your own home? Anyone who has a problem with that needs to learn some basic housekeeping skills or get therapy.

Maybe I'm lucky that my 4-yr-old is really thoughtful about his room color. We're considering options now, and he loves to look at photos and think about how his choices would look in his room and with his things. We have fun with testers, too. We currently have about 8 shades of green and yellow on his wall - still searching for "the one."

Mine didn't spread too much, I'd guess maybe 30%. They were cute and delicious. I had extra dough from when I rolled it out (my freezer space was limited), so I formed it into circles and did a thumbprint with a bit of jam on top. They came out great, too. The layered cookies make a fantastic presentation, but this recipe is a good one however you bake 'em.

Thanks, Emma, that sounds pretty great! I prepared the dough yesterday - it was a little messy but fun. I had a bit of trouble stacking the dough strips without breaking them. They'd been in the freezer for 30 min, but maybe they just weren't quite hard enough. Anyway, there's a layered block in the freezer waiting for me this evening :)

I'm fascinated that the jam stays in place during baking and the layers don't fall apart. Does jam harden with heat? Clearly I need to bake these myself and see :)

I like the piece, but I think new fabric alone might have been a better choice. Even the white spraypaint before the glaze (pic on her blog) is better than the end result, to my taste. Too heavy on the glaze here. Nice color & pattern choices on the fabric and pillows, though.

Yup, I've got that one box that's moved with me 6 times over the past 12 years. It's got items of sentimental value that I want to keep but don't want on display. If I unpacked that box, the contents would just go into another box, though perhaps not one made of cardboard. So I don't really see the point, it just stays in a closet.
