What worked for us was to make it funny. Not to make it embarrassing, (scolding a child for and accident which unfortunately I have seen happen). We took our daughter (2yrs) out and let her choose her potty. Whenever we would have to "go" we would take her in the bathroom with us and placed her on her potty.

There are tons of DVDs of various programs like Elmo's World that are geared towards potty training and really help a child grasp the idea while not making it forceful.

This house is straight out of my dreams.
