It's a look - and this isn't bad. My parents' dining room (as left by previous owner) is floor-to-ceiling (inclusive) hardwood, but it's also a small, closed room with one tiny north-facing window. It's *dark*.

I have the larger one too - I've had it for about a year - and I love everything about it (well, except that the black shelves tend to show dust). Very, very solid.

Akino-yes, the photo itself gives it away immediately, every single time. Pity, because it would be fun to actually guess based on the decor without that bias.

Primarily: Don't panic, and don't rush it. Your floor will still be there when you find a rug you like.

Aside from that, since it sounds like you're having trouble defining your goals, you'd benefit a lot from putting together a style tray. Scour every source of images you can find - AT house tours, design books, shelter mags - and gather the images that appeal to you all in one place. That should help you flesh out your vision so that you know what pieces need to be put together. Though you're already off to a good start by knowing some of the things you like, and the furniture you already have is great.

I've defined my goals for the Cure. In addition to the general cleaning and reconfiguring of the Deep Treatment, I'm going to finally put up all my curtains (for the last fall cure I'd just moved in and was still deciding what to do with the windows) and deal with some annoying miscellaneous boxes in my spare room. Just tonight I've been dusting and doing some small repairs.

I'm with JonathanB in thinking that the sort of privacy under discussion is more or less a bedtime story...though that doesn't necessarily mean I have no objection.

For the record, my goal this time 'round is to see how closely I can stick to the deep treatment without burning out. And as usual, look forward to seeing everybody's progress & pretties, formally committed or not.

Not, "Gross! No!" Just, "No." I really dislike bathrooms no matter how well appointed, and don't care to be there, for any reason, a moment longer than necessary.

Ceramic cross purchased "somewhere out west" and glazed in colors matching my linens. My bathroom ventilates too poorly for anything paper-based - even if it were something cheap that I didn't mind ruining, it wouldn't stay looking good for long enough to be worthwhile.

Having a couch that's not comfortable to sit on isn't compatible with any of the functions you say are goals for this room (entertaining, lounging) - and that's the kind of problem that causes resentment and resistance to using the room. You seem to have a lot of negative to say about the piece already, so I really think you can find something that will work better.

If we're talking about looks, I personally don't like it at all - it looks a bit cobbled together, and switching out the corner unit for an armless would probably enhance that effect. And I don't know if you're going to find much sectional-love in this crowd generally. Are you married to the sectional concept, or can you go with multiple pieces? I'd be more likely to go with the latter, and that would offer a different sort of flexibility.
