Hmmm. Nope, I'm still in the camp where Zero Neon = just enough Neon.

This is a really good one. The two things that stand out for me are the color scheme and how well each color of each room flows visually, and also the architecture of the space shines through and is well considered.

I love the idea of these posts, keep them coming. I also like the idea of 3 different area price points. Moving from Manhattan to Charleston, yes my salary is less, but even though Charleston might have one of the highest costs of living in the deep South, it pales in comparison to Manhattan, even in the heart of historic downtown. Its also interesting to thinking about other dream places realistically... I'm hoping you do one for Paris (my "when I'm aggravated" dream escape city)!

Good for you. When I left NYC and travelled for a year before relocating to Charleston, SC I stored MOST of my apartment furniture, only to spend the additional dollars to move it down here to realize it totally wasn't going to work in my new house. I think I could have saved just the memories and been better off!

oh, and commenters worried about cat sleeping arrangements, my cat, and I suspect many of the species, would have no problem hopping right up that ladder! I have to lock her up in a room so I can go up my in attic in peace without seeing her tearing around in the insulation.

@Bee For Bryan,

I have the exact same problem as Zenezie, a corner fireplace, with very short stub walls on each side with a doorway to the left and a 10 ft opening to the dining room on the other side. With windows on the far wall that leaves EXACTLY one and only one place to put the TV and it is above the fireplace. Not ideal, as it highlights it too much, but without blocking traffic flow or the fireplace and choosing to actually have a couch in the room, it really is the only logical solution. Corner fireplaces are difficult period when it comes to room design. Anyhow trust me, its certainly not that difficult to imagine, particularly in old houses that weren't built with TVs in the picture.

I have always thought if you have duck tape, wd-40 and a staple gun, you can pretty much accomplish anything.

It definitely prevents any squeeks, gets rid of rust in a jiffy, uncruds bike chains, removes crayon, ink and glue from most surfaces, and maybe best of all it takes off the medical tape, old bandaid, adhesive crap stuck on your arm/hand/fingers. Hate that stuff.

Oh and lets not forget that it makes sleds go realllllly fast (Pam no stick works well too).

ha, usually the hard way. I have painted a dark brown bathroom which looked very bad, and immediately painted it back to the pale green go-to color, and a kitchen dark brown twice, finally hitting on the right shade that was what I wanted. If its a big room, like the living room though, I now know to stop at one wall and let it sit for a week before continuing.

hmmm. I like most of the pieces but the put together isn't working for me. I suspect maybe another 4 months might change this make it more real? Either way, its nice to see budget style that doesn't look like Ikea or PB, my exact cup of tea or not. And you certain have a good eye for the pieces!

All of the above, particularly the things you can't change: lot size, location and neighbors.

But I have another very specific, learned the hard way tip: If you are buying an older house, run your fingernail across the wood work. So many owners, trying to slap a fresh look on dirty wood, put latex over oil or varnish and it will be coming off in chips in a few months. Its super important for older homes, as some of the oil paint coats on woodwork will contain lead paint, and remediation costs in the 10s of thousands of dollars. I hand scraped every single inch of crown moulding, doors, wainscot, chairrails, fireplaces and an entire staircase. It took 2 years. And it all could have been uncovered with a light scrape of the fingernail....

Seeing as my $30 dollar ceramic space heater I bought 8 years ago still runs like a charm doing exactly what its supposed to do, my guess is that the only problem James Dyson had was he couldn't figure out a way to charge ridiculous amounts of money for a space heater and convince people to buy it. He's obviously solved that problem.
