Some great joke.

There is no reason to, and no defense of, actively demeaning people of color. I read Apartment Therapy almost daily, participate actively, and generally hold it in high esteem, despite the lack of visible diversity on its writing staff. But from the cluelessly enthused 'Knitta, Please' profiles in '06, '08 and '09 to this post, there are strains of insensitivity, ignorance or worse that are a turn-off. An apology is in order.

Bepsf,
I follow your posts often and I generally admire your thinking and your writing. You come across as both tart and smart, as the situation requires. I'm really sorry to see you stoop to low humor.

I'm not sure how the PVC wreath would look in real life but the photograph is pretty compelling.

The work they did was good and I am happy that they are enjoying it.

But.

I doubt the wisdom of the financial decision. I know Prospect Heights well and $1900 is too much for that square footage, especially in this market, two BR or not, particularly in that condition. I think their perspective was skewed because they just wanted anything less expensive than the $2K they were paying in Manhattan. $1600 is about all I would have paid. It seems as though they have a nice and reasonable landlord which is a definite plus but it's unfortunate that when they leave, she'll probably leverage the four-year-old reno to inflate the rent even further.

That kelly green bathroom is over-the-top but so refreshing. I love every incarnation of green except, perhaps, lime.

I am completely fixated with herringbone floors. The stain would need to be quite dark, however.

The first and final headboards really work for me.
The first is stunning.

Funny how tastes change over time. 5-7 years ago, I would have loved this. Now, I'm pretty much, 'meh.' It's pretty but I'm in a different aesthetic place.

I hope this is a matter of a trick of photography, but I have to say that the areas seem to really have scale wrong. There's too much furniture in the main living space--it's all quite nice but the two seating areas are very close together and the Barcelona chairs are stranded on a too-tiny rug.

I don't have experience with the other systems but over the 5 years I've seen an Elfa system at work, it's been indestructible despite plenty of use and misuse.

Heatherdazy, I agree. Maybe it's the stress of living in small New York City apartments or the memories of growing up with nice formal dining rooms, but EIKs are an unwelcome compromise for me. Some of these set-ups are quite nice but as a general rule, I don't get the open concept enthusiasm.

The birch logs are pretty. The candles are nice too but really impractical and a little scary. I've had a collection of gourds and pumpkins on display for awhile and lately a ravenous squirrel has come every morning to take a chunk out of them. Time to abandon edibles and switch to statuary I guess.

I bought some Thomas O'Brien Christmas tree ornaments several years ago and they have held up beautifully. I do wish his current collection at Target was larger.

I'm torn about this. I can see it working. I can also see it coming off as, 'Why couldn't you commit to paneling all 4 walls?'

Soothing and very, very clean. Mint / sage gets such a bad rap in design world. I would just like to suggest possibly adding a deep emerald element in way of an accessory or even a broad-leafed plant to pull even more of the garden party vibe.
