You might try calling to see if you can get an informational interview at one of the firms to get advice - these places are probably getting tons of resumes, and design students will be at the top of the list for the internships. You could visit your favorite smaller design studios to see if they'd be willing to let you shadow for a day or two. For your photos/case studies, creating a blog would be a free and easy way to showcase your work/interests so far. Advice on How To Get a Design Internship?
