While the DWR route would probably give you a nice-looking end result, it would also be very safe -- and it sounds like that's exactly what you're trying to avoid. Any way to combine the two concepts? Eames LCW in red? Good Questions: Got Chairs For Me? |

Yeah, I have to echo Valerie's sentiments about the price of the TO for LB stuff. I actually like the storage "Kate" ottomans quite a bit, but not for three hundred (EFFING!) dollars. Good Questions: Todd Oldham/La-Z-Boy Feedback? |

Agree that it looks unfinished. And while I don't like it in the context of that particular photo/environment, I don't think it would be bad in a more Zen-inspired, Asian bedroom, along with some fabric and high ceilings. Then again, that's not really my thing either. Not great, not terrible, just ... meh. CB2's Indie Bed |

The wife and I have the low metal bed/headboard, and have slept, etc., on it quite soundly for the last 3 years. No problems with it whatsoever, though I concede that may be due to the fact that it's basically two big pieces of stainless steel screwed together. I do remember sitting on some of the chairs/sofas when we were in the Dumbo, NYC, store buying the bed, and thinking they were not so a.) comfy b.) sturdy. If I were in the market for something woody, I don't think West Elm would be my first stop ~ although they claim "wood construction," there's no way those woody-looking beds/dressers etc. are solid wood. Probably MDF or some other composite with a wood veneer on top. Good Questions: Are West Elm Beds Still Breaking? |

Thanks for the continued input, all! Leaving the floors bare is definitely an option - but I should clarify: the dining area is part of a larger, open living space (while I wouldn't call our apartment a loft, the kitchen/living space/dining space is open). So a big reason we're thinking "rug under the dining table" is spatial dilineation (and yes, Patrick, to protect the floors, since we eat most meals on that table and the chairs move a lot). Thanks for the very helpful comments, everyone! Probably should've mentioned some kind of budgetary figure ... I love the two rugs that Maxwell selected too, but we want to keep it in the sub-$500 range - ESPECIALLY since it's going under a dining table where, yes, someone (probably me) will spill red wine on it (soon). We've leafed through the FLOR catalog, and while tiles wouldn't normally be our first choice, they do seem like a good compromise between the practical and the beautiful in this case.
