enjoyed the tour! really like the design sensibility, even if it's a bit overloaded for my own taste. less adler would be better, but to each, her own!

wow, not my taste, but I applaud their commitment to figuring out their taste. that said: I do love love the collection of Ball jars. and please please please please get rid of all your fake plants (nothing screams tacky like fake plants). you might have more success with succulents (which are the only plants can keep alive). after years of killing plants, I found that there's a wide variety of succulents that I can neglect and which will flourish.

while it may not be what I'd choose to live in for years and years... it would be the PERFECT studio/guest house. gorgeous work.

hey guys? I went to attempt to view Diana's housecall (not just the pics of her chairs, but the pics from the original housecall in 2007), and all the pics seem to have vanished. could you let us know if this is deliberate? or is there a way you could restore them? thanks!

don't know if it's the new version of the website, but I can't access any of the photos on this housecall.

miele miele miele miele miele miele. almost can't go wrong with any of their models (but do check out the variants online). mine isn't the highest-end model, but it could suck the wood off the floor if I let it (I have hardwoods, with low-pile area rugs, but my version can be dialed up for high pile rugs, too).

please please: can you source the giant mirror? I've been looking for one for ages, and am stuck between ikea (cheapest), cb2 (moderately priced) and room and board (expensive). wondering if the mirror is one of these, or something else?? thanks so much!!

argh. why is this site so. darned. slow? feels like it's slower than it used to be, and now I just can't be bothered waiting. can you give us an estimate on when performance will improve?

also, I echo some of the previous comments about seriously missing the "local community" aspects of the site. I live near boston, so I want to see all the posts associated with boston. in one place, please.

lastly, your search tool sucks. in a big way. yes, it returns results, but they seem ordered randomly. why not try listing by date (most recent article first), at least as a first pass. if you're going to insist we use the re-designed site, you'd better have a functioning search tool. just sayin'.

I use a black rectangular plastic tray purchased at the hardware store (I think meant for plants). not fancy, but inexpensive.

so...how many people can you fit in there for a party?? looks so. darned. amazing. and I can't believe you guys pulled this off in (way less than) four months. all the curating and culling! brave, but with obviously amazing results.

one question, though: chris, where's the gorgeous armoire you made, or could it not make it up those stairs?

my answer would be Goodwill, Salvation Army or other thrift stores. no one said the glasses needed to match, and there are often extremely interesting ones, priced at about $0.60 apiece. and if you have no room for storage after? donate them back. think of it as the best recycling program ever, with the $ going to a very good cause. (you could even write-off the donation, if you felt like it.)

(about a year ago, I found a set of eight vintage coupe cocktail glasses--these are just the right size for alcohol because they're not too big-- and I gifted them to a friend after the party.)

please please tell me who painted the painting above the fireplace!

I love the openness of the layout, the finishes (carrera marble!) and I might be tempted to murder someone for the fireplaces (heath tiles! swoon!) and the glass wall. the mid century furnishings lend a warmth I find soothing.

personally, hollywood regency has never worked for me. as much as I try to appreciate the geometric and bling-y design elements (and I suppose I do, at least in theory), I can never escape the fact that it looks like my school chums' grandparents house.

the important thing is that YOU love it. so, bravo!

I'd have loved to see a "before" picture of the tile in the kitchen, for comparison.

Love the bones of your home, love the open spaces, especially love the bedroom.

Wishing, however, the space was a little less cluttered and a little more curated, if that makes sense?

What I like most about this place is the sense that it evolves...(as time, money, new objects--and a new person!--come into your lives) and that's a lesson we can all take away.

ps. adding a good bit of dill to the veggie stock, straining out the old stuff, and then snipping a bit more over the kneidel just before serving... well, it's not quite my bubby's chicken soup, but it's close. (oh, and use exactly one yam when making the broth, and plenty of celery, parsnip and carrots.)
