I use Seventh Generation shower cleaner, which I spray in generous quantity on the shower curtain liner at the start of a shower. Then at the end of the shower, before I turn off the water, I scrub the liner with a scruffy sponge, then rinse it all. Works like a charm. Marmarplay! Excellent question! I don't have quite such a fantastic cat (though we're getting 2 in January), but I do have an armless couch and am on the look-out for a slipcover. Anyone have anything useful to say about slipcovers? Apartment Therapy Chicago | CHI Good Questions: Armless Slipcover? |

I was trying to come up with some prize-worthy story about my proudest sewing moment (it had to do with running the Featherweight needle through my thumbnail at age five, a piercing that -- given my life-long passion for sewing -- could only have come from the stitch-faeries themselves), but then I looked at Lori's quilt for her friend's difficult-to-conceive baby. It is by far the most eloquent of these many colorful comments. She should win this week's prize package, hands down. In fact, she could teach Amy Butler a thing or two! What a work of beauty and love. Brava, Lori! And bravo, Johnny and Johnny's mom! Apartment Therapy - Thursday Giveaway: Amy Butler Prize Package |

Can anyone suggest a good DIY framing place in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or the Bronx? Seems to me there used to be one on Atlantic Ave. in B'lyn, but I can't find it. Apartment Therapy - Open Thread 527 |

P.S. I've never used the oven method of seasoning. I use the stove top. Put a thin layer of a good oil in the bottom of the skillet and keep it on a burner at the lowest possible heat for several hours. As the oil dissipates/sinks in, add a little more, just to keep the surface of the skillet covered. After a while -- at least a couple of hours -- turn off the heat. Once it's cooled, sop up left-over oil with paper towels. Good Question: How Do I Clean My Smelly Cast Iron Pan? |

I never use soap when I wash my cast-iron skillets, and I dry them on a stove top burner on high heat until the remaining water droplets sizzle. Soap (even gently eco-friendly dish soap) strips the seasoning pretty quickly. Maybe you need to wash it hard in a good dish soap -- even Brillo, maybe -- then rinse it very thoroughly and then re-season it? Good Question: How Do I Clean My Smelly Cast Iron Pan? |

How interesting...I love the blurry one. The less-blurry, lower picture is nice, but the blurry one touches something different and -- to me -- much more visually satisfying. Through My Window: Dusk |

I went on many tours with Wildman in days gone by. They were always remarkable experiences, full of surprise and even delight. But I'm astonished to learn that he has procreated! There really is a lid for every pot... Foraging: Out To Eat . . . in Your Local Park |

These are wonderful, but I'm even more charmed by the embroidery hoop swatches. Maybe it's their unlikely roundness for framed color, but those are the pictures on her blog that most delight (of a host of delightful images!). Hers look even better than the ones at Purl. eriberri and Laura -- My bed fits what's called a three-quarters mattress -- wider than a twin but 4" narrower than a full. I use full sheets and queen sheets. Nothing bunches or rides up or slips off. [though it just occurred to me -- maybe I'm totally weird and never move while I sleep -- ?] Open Thread 415 |
