You could not pay me enough to have one of those in my home. I hate the open staircase look. Never mind the function!

This is a really late comment, but I'm surprised at how many people like their LG refrigerators. I loathe mine and am looking to replace it. It leaks every day, big pools of water across my floor. The bottom freezer drawer is constantly frozen shut, and the capacity is way too small for two people who cook even intermittently. Maybe it's all right if all you ever do is stick a container of leftover takeout on the shelf, but I'm constantly rearranging things to fit in a half-gallon of milk. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of small counter-depth refrigerators to choose from, but I would stay far, far away from LG.

I think I have that same crummy tile in my bathrooms, and I cannot wait to replace it. Who ever thought that tile was a good idea?

I am confused. The picture says "Blu Dot Keep on Giving Event." The write-up says “Keep on Giving” Event at Gus* Modern. Gus Modern website says nothing about the promotion, and Gus products are not the same as Blu Dot. Which is it?

Having grown up in Wisconsin and Michigan, I'm shocked that five cities made the list. There's a lot of reasons why this Midwesterner fled from Wisconsin to the East Coast and can't imagine ever going back. Manitowoc...shudder.

Right around the corner from my house! And across the street from my previous one!

My bathroom tiles look exactly like that, except with disgusting black mold staining every crevice. My landlord doesn't see this as a problem. I plan on caulking the darn things and hoping they don't fall out before I can afford to buy a place that I can actually renovate.

When I did the flowers for my wedding, the flower vendor advised me to mix half Sprite or other clear, non-diet soda to and half water for flowers. It worked beautifully, and I've been using that 50/50 mixture ever since. Not that I can ever have flowers now, since the cats eat them as soon as they enter the house.

If you want the security that home ownership brings, buy a house. Don't expect someone else to subsidize it for you. If you can't afford rents, then you either can't afford your job or where you live. These are the kinds of decisions that adults make.

I would put two curtains on tracks that can be pulled all the way around the tub. You'd need a liner, of course, but it could be dramatic and visually appealing while still hiding the actual tub. Combined with window seats, it would preserve the openness of the room.

Short, hot, sweet, and to the point. I have no control over how hot the boiler is kept (live in an apartment) and thus am not going to suffer needlessly.

I think they're great! Put them side-by-side and when you're cooking, close the sink top to make space! They would be great in my apartment, anyway. Right next to a washer/dryer combo, of course.

My craigslist experience has been very hit-or-miss. In New York, there are people giving stuff away and people trying to charge a mint for used Ikea furniture or flat-out junk. You just have to show up and be prepared to walk away. With selling, just getting people to honor the appointments they set up to come look at an item is a real challenge. I just donate everything now. My husband refuses to go on any more craigslist excursions, which pretty much rules it out as a furniture resource for us.

I sent this to a friend who works at an art/architecture school in NYC. I hope some of the students enter! Maybe I can cadge some more ideas for my own house.

I am in a similar situation, with ugly light fixtures that our landlord won't let us change. Our fixtures are smaller and close to the (high) ceiling, so we just use tall lamps in the room. Is there any way to hang it closer to the ceiling and cover it, maybe with one of those paper ball shades? It's too big to be unobtrusive, but maybe you could cover it up with something arty.

I don't think it's so terrible; maybe just embrace it?

It looks like there might be some sort of glass railing. If you squint and stare. If I'm imagining the railing, I have to agree that that would be one nasty wake-up!
