Dunn Edwards " Frozen Tundra" is a nice grey/blue that's grown-up and not too beachy or eyeshadow hued..it would go well with both the sofa and floors.

My advice is to stick with what Dunn Edwards have picked as their "best choices" in the brochures they make and not the master palette, as there are too many choices and mistakes to be made.....it's worked great for me.

It also looks like whatever colour you do choose there is going to be lot of it on that huge wall!

I am in the middle of this too.....my kiychen is ripped out and today will be wired for plugs and cabinet lights then I'll add a new floor this weekend....then IKEA will deliver my kitchen on the 2nd!!.

It's chaos here.....chaos taking place on horrible grey "stone tile" laminate that was unearthed when I took of the floating floor.

Wost bit.....fast food, cereal, and sandwiches for 3 days now!

Best bit.......moving the coffee maker into my bedroom!!
WHAT A SLICE OF HEAVEN in the morning!

The price of the kitchen makes up for it all.....I bought it during the 20% off sale IKEA just had.....and the entire thing including appliances and ceasarstone counter tops, was a measly $5900.....I'm thrilled!

Since I live by myself and rarely have overnight guests, plus a cat that will scratch at any closed door until he's let in, I removed all my doors.....including my upstairs bathroom (likely a temporary thing).

I now have so much more flow now....no awkward, unused doors taking up space.....and it's brighter in the hallway.

It's almost "loft like" in is spaciousness....hahaha

I used to date a guy with a mother that was VERY into Michael Jackson.....if there was an item for the home and there was a way to bring Michael into it....she would

He had MANY ridiculous items from the Phillipines..like wall cloaks....pillows....tapestries, plates and cups, lamps and such.....and she had it all

Including a HUGE airbrushed painting of varioyus MJ's from the 70's till now with the phrase "HAVE YOU SEEN MY CHILDHOOD" airbrushed in bright yellow!!!

......in the PURPLE RAIN FONT!!!!

God was that a hose to visit!!!!!

I have a small Albertsons that I can get to in 3 mins on foot from my kitchen.

I also have a Posh Ralph's and a Giant Ralph's only a quick bike ride or 10 min walk.

And a liquor store across the street and 2 big gas station markets open 24/7 on the corner.

It's the stuff dreams are made of!

I will not....heres why...

Because magazines are CLUTTER!!! And another one dedicated to the same old same old is just more clutter, more trash in landfills, and a waste of paper!! This looks like Domino meets Real Simple via way of Ready Made.
And will likely give you that same tips as we get on here.

I have trimmed my magazines by 90%....I get my home ideas and inspiration from here, Habitually Chic, Room Sixteen (love her!) and assorted others. LA Times Home section is still good too (when I knick it from Starbucks!)

All my fashion mags (at one time,10 per month) have been replaced by A Shaded View On Fashion ( the best blog EVER!)

If I like a magazine...I'll look at it's website. I'd cancel Paper magazine....if they'd let me...I seem to get it free now!

Magazines and newspapers are a quickly becoming thing of that past! They can't keep up with the internet and are a serious damage to the environment!

Save your $$$...save the trees....read the websites!

Of course this goes completely against my recent comment about how magazines are a great source for cheap art :)

I do this all the time....have for years

I recently ran into a problem in my redone bathroom

I had no money for art....and no real ideas.

I found a treasure trove of late 1800's bicycle patents on the internet....beautiful scans with interesting lines and detail, tons of appeal, and in my mind....very original and very me (also very now, very Steampunk)

I played around in i-photo with my 4 favourites the I took the files to Kinkos....ran some great copies on nice thick cardstock.....slipped them into Target frames and BANG!!!.......instant art for under $40!!! It looks very cool and I'm very pleased!

W magazine is also another great source for pictures that are big enough to look they did not come from a magazine. They always have a few non fashion landscape type pics thrown in. Vice magazine has good stuff to, as do many.....just steer clear of the models and fashion stories, that can look cheap and tacky.

I have 3 frames in my hallway where I constantly change the pics depending on the season and my mood, it's worked very well for me.....it's fun to change it around.
The library and Kinkos are my best sources.

I love ripping apart old photo books as well.....I once papered a hallway with old books photo books from a garage sale and a can of spray glue.

You do need to use your judgement when doing this....you can end up looking quite naff with a wall full of faux Warhols or Cindy Shermans.....so watch it!

I'm VERY pleased that I waited to 3 years furnish my condo with new furniture and paint....otherwise I'd be living in a ticking time bomb of tired and overplayed style.

I bough in 2005.....when Hollywood Regency was new-ish, everything became tufted, that bright robins egg blue paint was everywhere, every furniture company under the sun was doing "mid-century modern", and David Hicks wallpaper was the big thing (despite it's HUGE price tag!).

I held off.....thought things out.....THANK GOD!!!

Some of those elements are classic, beautiful, and have staying power.....but all of them lumped together will forever be filed under "mid-naughties", despite being pulled from the past.

I'd still be paying off the Jonathan Adler sofa....and Craigslisting the Todd Oldham for Lazy Boy shelves and chairs to pay for that precious David Hicks wallpaper!.

Baileyb....you hit the spot

It sometimes does come from not having much at some point in your life....or perhaps too much.

Another old friend of mine who is a clothes, glassware and book hoarder grew up very modestly in Alabama....the adopted daughter of christian missionaries.

She has a closet that is so packed with items on "last chance- 90% off clearance rack" from Barneys and Fred Segal you can barely fit another item in.....she CAN'T take advice to go to Buffalo Exchange and sell them, because then she won't have them anymore and that will take away her status of "having nice things".

Enter her tiny bathroom and you are hit with multiple bottles of hair products, skin care, make-up and perfumes fighting for space on the shelves....some of it quite old.

on the flip side

The girl I speak of in my comment above grew up wealthy in Newport Beach....and can't keep up that lifestyle on her own....in fact she is quite un-educated,un sophisticated, ...and begining to turn very low class ghetto. But the illusion of having all that stuff makes her feel whole....like when she was growing up and had a closet full of clothes, import records on the turntable and a cute car.

Thats why it never stops.....that's why she has over 100 pair of black platforms from goodwill, and a huge tangle of QVC style jewelry from TJ Maxx on her dresser!

Her grooming products are also numerous....but cheap!

Neither of these girls have even been close to having a steady, stable man.....both are in their 40's and are childless.....men run from them and their apartments.

It's sad!

YA WANNA SEE SCARY???.....and quite sad

Google " MESSY HOUSTON APARTMENT"

But seriously....I have a friend that is on her way to needing to be rescued....her apartment is overrun and badly cluttered with odd thrift store purchases, and other impulse buys. What's so sad is that she can't fit all her dishes in the cupboards....and she NEVER cooks and rarely eats at home because her kitchen is so jammed with crap. She never gets rid of anything.....and her stuff is dominating her life. Every weekend...she seems to add more and more. She has more art on the floor waiting to be hung...than she has room on the walls!

Hoarding is such a sad cycle....I always feel sorry for those that suffer from this.

My Mom is a bit of a clothes hoarder....she still had cute vacation clothes from the early 80's in one of her guest rooms closets.....much to the delight of my nieces last summer, when that look was raging all over shops in Echo Park!

Those already look like something from Anthropologie!

Leave the base as is....and add a black shade, a black shade with gold inside

Or/And

Add a gel or some sort of patterned window film on the glass....

I steer clear of anything from IKEA that needs to be sit on, or laid down on.....too many bad memories there!

But....my Billy bookshelves just wore out after 10 years, several moves and holding tons of books and records.

I can't do West Elm.....I try, I browse....but never buy.
It seems cheap and badly made. Weird shapes and sizes too....I hate that square chair they sell.

CB2 is fun......I like the LA store and got some cute Warhol plates in the NYC branch that I like more than I thought I would. I'm contemplating a few things from there.....it seems like it's good quality.

Target is best for sheets, duvet covers, towels and little things....some of that early Thomas O' Brien stuff has worked well for me....and it's always the "WOW" price that makes it complete....ya gotta cruise the end caps!!

Everything I've bought from Z-Gallerie is GREAT! I love my bed (nice and sturdy), love my stools, my curtains and my bathroom mirror.....they have great stuff!

I think Restoration Hardware is worth it....I've been shopping for a train rack for the bathroom and they have the highest price.....but quality and proportions that surpasses everyone....l've really gotten into them as of late.....they seem to have a passion for home stuff that others don't.....they really have some great floor lamps.
