alisaan, the wall mounted headboard came from the hardware store. It's just a sheet of plywood that I upholstered and then my husband mounted with french cleats (flush mounts). Nightstands are the same idea, but with Ikea malm nightstands attached, which took a little engineering on his part. The whole project didn't take very long, a couple of weekends because the fabric was delayed, but it could have been done in one weekend easily.

I've never linked to pictures before so I hope this works, but jbuff these are before and afters of our master bedroom that show the headboard/nightstand mounted system. Hopefully the befores and afters are obvious, but just in case, orange: before, gray: after. This is just phase 1, but it's made a huge difference already.

Apartment Therapy Chicago | Spring Cure 2009: Discussion Board I Kansas City

jbuff, I'll try to post some pictures tonight. I was considering waiting until the whole room was done, but I'm so proud of the headboard project that I'm happy to send an "in progress" photo.

This weekend we did a lot of little projects that took almost no time at all, but that for some reason we'd been putting off. My husbnad installed a new threshold between the hallway and the upstairs bathroom (where we pulled up the existing carpet, disgusting, and put in a black rubber floor many many months ago), and also hung shelves in the nursery, which completely changed the look of the room. It's amazing what the little stuff does.

The handyman is now done in our upstairs, so we threw away the construction trash, got all of our furniture back to the right spot, etc. If you have a bathroom that you hate, consider some paint and new lighting. I hated our upstairs bathroom, and while it's not a masterpiece now, paint (walls and vanity) and new lighting, along with the rubber floor, have made a huge difference. I might even describe it as pleasant now. Before it was hideous.

We have a hard deadline indeed. Yesterday the painter/handyman finished up in the master bedroom and it looks fantastic. We finally have a space that is clean and restful and sexy...just in time for a crying baby. We also designed and built a headboard and mounted nightstand system for our bed, which was previously sitting on a frame against a bare wall, and it looks great. Currently my husband's closet is in what is now the nursery, so next weekend my sister is making the trek to Ikea in Minneapolis to pick up a Pax wardrobe, which has a spot waiting for it in the master bedroom, so that we can move his closet in there. After that we will be 90% of the way there, and as I said before, I will be struggling with the last 10%.

OK, here's number two.

My big project is our master bedroom, and this weekend I cleaned out my closet and got it a little more organized. We're on a bit of a fast track because we're expecting our first child near the beginning of May, so the handyman started today with painting, new lighting, etc. So that part will move pretty fast, but I'm finding that my problem is the last 10%. I get rooms 90% of the way there but never quite "finish" them.

matt in kc, do you mean the house at 16th & summit? on the west side of the street? if so, it's a graphic design firm. i live on the next block over and walk my dog every day. at first i thought it was someone's residence and i couldn't understand how a) they kept it that clean and b) i never saw anyone eating at the huge saarinen table. love those windows and love that furniture.

karazy, thanks! And that's a fair question. We gave up "TV" over a year ago (we still have a TV, but we don't get any channels and just use it to watch Netflix), so we moved the TV upstairs to this cozy room we have that is kind of oddly shaped because of the pitch in our roof and made it into a TV den. We don't have a TV downstairs anymore.

Thanks everyone! amt230, we liked the dresser too, but our house is pretty small and it took up a lot of space. We're now using it for linen storage. My husband bought it at a local furniture store before we were together. bepsf and canova, any special process to paint the glass (priming, special paint, etc)? It sounds like a great idea, I'd like to give it a try. RedMaiko, that is a biozhazard symbol on the red table, and actually it's an entire biohazard container.

This isn't a commercial shipping option, but we live in Kansas City and I wanted an Expedit bookshelf from Ikea, the closest of which is located in Dallas, TX. So my husband put an ad on Craigslist in Dallas, and this guy emailed us and said he had a truck and was coming to/near Kansas City for a holiday anyway, and we paid him $50 to deliver it, vs. around $300 shipping on the Ikea web site. It worked out really well for us, although I realize that you take a chance on a stranger. But you could get lucky with someone who has some empty space in a Uhaul that's coming your way.

Love your space. I've seen the wall calendar before but didn't know who made it. My husband and I just got married in May, and it actually gave me the idea to have May 2007 framed for our new house; problem is that the calendar is sold out for 2007. If anyone has the 2007 calendar and doesn't throw away their old months and has May, I'd love to buy it from you. jaauxter at hotmail dot com. Thanks!
