I suppose cozy if I am being honest, although I just love an ultra-modern room. It's never worked out that way for my family because I insist on having a huge, deep, comfy couch with blankets and pillows that me, my tall husband and our 70lb dog can all lounge on. I prefer the look of a minimal couch with sleek upholstery and low arms but I've never really found one that suits our needs.
I also love a bit of quirk, but to keep it in line we edit and are thoughtful about where things go. Vintage glasswear and souviner shot glasses (an embarrassing collection, I know) are in the bar area, oils and salts on display in the kitchen and the really quirky random items mixed in with books on the bookshelves. That way tables can stay clear of clutter.

In our vegan household we rely heavily on canned beans have an assortment at all times. I would also add nuts as a staple. We have almonds and walnuts on hand most of the time. White beans or chickpeas, wilted greens, nuts, and pasta with olive oil makes a great quick dinner. Another go to is pre-made peanut sauce with Asian noodles or rice. We add some combination of broccoli slaw or asparagus or faux chicken or tofu if we have it to make a simple lunch or dinner.

In Vermont fall is one of the best times of year! One of my favorite (and possibly unique?) traditions is to celebrate the end of daylights savings time by cooking a huge meal full of the heaviest most comforting recipes I can think of, mulling cider to drink with whiskey, and inviting friends over to watch a comedy movie at 4 when it starts to get dark out.

We are childless so far, but I agree about the feeling of nostalgia around this time. We live in a college town, so I get to see all the students walking up the hill in cute sweaters. 10 years later I am STILL jealous they are going to class and I am going to work.

Also my fiercely independent, ornery, 10 year old greyhound becomes a snuggle-bug when she gets chilly at night and curls right up on the bed with us. Bliss.

I stand on both sides of the argument. I either make guacamole with avocado and lime OR avocado, lime, cilantro, corn, tomato, scallions, garlic and canned chipotle peppers. I think both are delicious!

As a vegan, I would have a very lonely life if all my friends chose to exclude me from parties due to my diet. I am happy to bring a dish to share if the "main course" is something I don't eat, and I am always more than happy to host and return the favor of cooking a delicious meal. I guess I am lucky that most people in my life enjoy the challenge of pleasing every one with a fantastic dinner!

I have "pinned" both the risotto and the spinach and chickpea recipes...both will be perfect for my bookclub!

I love it. And I get the book choice. We color-coded our large wall of books, but you make an excellent point, they are far enough out of view to not distract from the tv.
As an aside, can you tell me more about the stump end table? It is so pretty!
