On the mantle, with pretty colored stones in them. on top of one of the bookcases, holding different pretty stones.

scattered throughout the house serving various practical functions until such time as I need them for flowers - holding scrapers in the kitchen until I need it, then I stick the scrapers in a wide mouthed glass and use the vase.

masquerading as a mason jar - unless it's an arrangement that doesn't work in a mason jar, 80% of all flowers that come into the house go into wide mouthed quart jars.

at goodwill where I can pay $.50 to get them out of storage if I suddenly REALLY NEED a generic vase in a shape I don't already own?

We use jars for everything. everything. carrying berries to work for lunch. storing pens, grains, beans, cereal. Instead of canisters for sugar, flour, etc.

Classico pasta sauce, TJ's salsa and several other grocery store items come in jars whose lists are the same size as narrow mouth mason jars, so we keep both the jar and the lid - allows us to use two-part lids with some things and also means we've got one-piece lids for things that need it.

The Moonblush Tomatoes sound exactly like what I was thinking.

You can also freeze them straight up. When you thaw them, run them under hot water and rough them up between your palms. The skins will slip right off, and they'll be pre-broken-down from the freezing.

We have cats, and we use towels!

usually, we use hand towel sized kitchen towels instead of bath towels, but same idea. Works like a dream, no waste.

hah! I've noticed that my neglected tomatoes that get watered when it rains and rarely otherwise are the tastiest tomatoes I've ever had. Nice to know there's some science behind it; folks have been guilting me with how THEY water every day to get the most/best tomatoes.

Funny... I might be the clueless girlfriend with no taste, because carnations and baby's breathe are among my top five favorite flowers. Love the big drifting mound of bb. and carnations totally hold their own, with or without citrus additions... especially if you grow your own. They smell like joy.
