You can purchase directly through the Striker's website. The website also lists a number of retailers (including Ace) that sells their products. You may just need to contact Ace to ask them to order one for you if they don't have it stocked.

If you do get it, follow up and let us know what your step-dad thinks!

Get the hardwired thermostat. In the end you'd have to pay for changing new batteries anyways, which could get costly too. The way I see it, if you can't get your landlord to help pay for the new thermostat, then you should just take it with you when you move to a new apartment (just like furniture). Also, when I got mine, I was able to get a rebate, so the hardwired cost the same as the battery powered - definitely look out for sales or rebates. Also, I don't think it's worth paying for a 7-Day programmable thermostat, you'll probably hardly use the extra features. Go with a 5 2, which is less expensive.

Good luck!

If the current thermostat controls the wall heater, than yes the wires would control the heater. The wires for your unit may be different that in the video, but a new thermostat typically can take a number of wires.

Regarding the heat settings - see if you can find a users manual online for your unit, hopefully there is a key for what temperature each number corresponds to...

I have 4 different temperatures for my weekdays to maximize efficiency: Morning-68º (set so that its on when I wake up until I leave for work about 2 hours), Day-60º (about 10 hours), Evening-68º (about 3 hours), then Night-60º (about 9 hours).

It might take a little tweaking, and obviously depends on your personal schedule, HVAC system and comfort level. Good luck!

About a year and a half ago an employee at their Oakbrook store told me that West Elm would indeed be moving into the current Whole Foods location at North & Clybourn, and Whole Foods would be moving to a larger location. I sort of dismissed it because that was so long ago and I heard nothing further about it. Hopefully Whole Foods moving somewhere else will help ease all the congestion in that area...

ha, this is great - i also heard this interview on NPR. His books were a big Christmas gift hit - just about everyone in my family got one. Also, I got the vegetarian version (green) and BF got the standard (red).

I've had the Jasper for about a year, and the cushions are super comfy - I don't remember them being stiff at all. But I do remember they came out with a new version (though I thought it was only different fabric) right after I got mine, so maybe that's the difference? I'd give it time or call R&B and see if there's a difference of cushion filling between what you have and what's in the show room.

This will depend on if you rent or own, but..

- If you are going to block off the kitchen door, really do it. Take out the door, install a plywood back on the kitchen edge of the door opening, and then install built-in shelving in the door opening. How well this works depends on how thick that wall is. Paint the inside of this to match the inside of the built-in desk niche (see next comment), and paint the shelving white. Voila, built-in shelves.
- Do a built-in desk in the niche. The existing upper cabinets work, but it may make more sense to get ride of them and start from scratch. I think the dining room walls are nice, the whole room has a nice tranquil feel - but the niche should be painted a different color or get wall papered so it 'pops.'
- Put nice a nice small wooden credenza below each of the windows flanking the niche. These should look like furniture (rather than file cabinets) and conceal whatever is stored.
- Streamline the art by hanging them all at a similar height (centers at ±66" above the floor)
- It looks like the chairs have already been painted and covered, so keep those and definitely paint the table.
- The existing credenza is nice, maybe it will fit on one of the other walls or can find a new home somewhere else in the house. Same with the round plant stand - keep it, but maybe not here if it doesn't make sense.
- There should definitely still be some plants in this room.
- I like the stool, but, again it may just be cluttering up the space...

I gave this exact same thing as a housewarming gift (though it was a different scent), and it was warmly received. I think it's a good idea to nudge people in the 'green' direction while they're starting off with a clean slate.

We use these all the time in our projects - they're great for hallways, bathrooms and closets where you may not always have access to natural light. They get so bright you'll look for a switch to turn them off. Most of the companies who make these also have an integrated light option, so that a light bulb is built-in that can be used a night - that way you're not pocking up you're ceilings with both solartubes and light fixtures.

Mniche - You've probably heard about BioBased Insoylation or some other brand. Either way, the soy oil replaces about 20% of the petroleum content in the insulation, reducing the amount of petroleum required to manufacture the foam. But by volume, this means soy accounts for about 10%. There is no 100% pure soy based insulation that I know of.

These are are essentially concrete, so just like any other concrete structure, it seems like it'd last a very long time. Though it'd be nice to hear if anyone's had a bad experience with it. We're using this product on a project I'm working on for kitchen countertops, and it's a lovely material.
