i have something very very similar which was originally a sideboard and part of a dining set i purchase. However, now I dont have the rest of the set and use it as a dresser, and it works great. So i would say it could do either, but originally was probably a buffet table/side board

funkia - thanks for the apropo AT post. I think getting some kind of color for the back of the shelves will open it up a bit, and then re-arrange books like you and all suggest.

I wouldnt want to paint the peice, as I like the stain.

Thanks for the comments. Its a shame that the photo was taken with those curtains, as they dont exist anymore...they arent like that in person though.
The new ones are lighter and different material. Anyhow, the photo in general is odd lighting, so the blue is not showing properly either. I suppose i should have had a better photo!

Its sort of a shame the photo was taken with the drapes, since they have since been taken down...and they look sort of awefull in this photo, different in person. I have lighter sort of grey (light toned) curtains. Anyhow, they can't go down to the ground because of the heaters you see in the photo. Also, the walls arent quite as drab as the photo indicates...its just sort of bad lighting in the photo.

I appreciate the comments, please keep them coming.

Oh and i cant do the overhead lighting because i woul dhave to pay ALOT to have the wiring imbed within the concrete...or i would have to have exposed track.

I guess I'm not a fan of painted brick, but I do like the look it has now, primed white. It might be nice to sort of buff it a bit in spots to get down to the original brick to get a sort of weathered look?

Sorry to post this general question, but I dont know where else to do it. Does anyone know how long it takes to get a question posted? I have emailed several questions and it has been a month. Just wondering if they dont post everything?

My vote would be for a pop of color, even if it is a grey tone with hits of blue or green in it.
Or you could go with a burnt orange color.
I think since your rug and all other areas are neutral, a little pop from the soft seating is nice.

I definitely get alot of light in my place, but I have always had issues with bugs like spider mites. So this year I'm going to try plants that are situated away from the windows (because they are always open). Do you think this would help? I live in a high rise.

In a blue room such as yours, wood stains along with gray tones work well alot of times. You could try to find furniture peices that could be painted in a grey tone.

As far as the walls go, since you have alot of bare walls, you could consider doing about 5 or so larger matted prints across the whole back wall where the bed is, and then recenter the bed. That way the sconces you have, would be the wall accent at the lower level.

OR, you can do a larger peice of artwork directly above the bed, and on the wall beside the bed you can do a photo collage. There is a good amount of space there to do something nice. You just would want to make sure its balanced.

Lastly the mats you use for the artwork could help to define what color furnitre to buy. Meaning, a grey matt, would help tie in the grey furniture, and if you do a photo collage, you can use some wood frames (to tie in the bed) and some just regular metal ones.

Just some thoughts!

I have the arc lamp as shown here.
However, it does not seem to light up the room as much as i would like. What type of plug in track light did you use? I am in search of something but valo no longer makes it. Please help. Also, does anyone know how i can post to AT? I'd like to post a question about my living area lighting with photos.
Thanks to all.
