We got the Dream sign at a cute little shop in downtown Benicia (west coast, bay area)---that drove our whole idea; I do have to add that my parents, Guthrie's nana and papa joe found the vintage radio flyer, had it repainted and put his name on both sides---priceless :) you can see how he felt about it.

thanks for the comments :) jana

I do get nervous about hanging stuff, but I have a hardcore husband who hangs stuff like no other; we have them bolted pretty well. Thanks for the fun comments; it was a labor of love and quite fun; our lil girls room, which I can put on flickr, is so different and very romantic and girly---muted hues, with a lil pretty baby chandelier---it throws off a pretty shadow at nite---very juxtaposed to this bold boys ensemble. warmth, jana

A new countertop from formica or the other brand, that is more commercial would be very inexpensive and easy to install; the new formica's are really cool and they have so many options; when you are redoing the floor you could add that in as one of your elements; you can paint the base of the vanity, change out that vanity hardware and really make it look different; if you want more ideas, email me at jana@janassociates.com.

Check out the new formica's though; they aren't your mother's and they aren't all screaming colors. The edge selections have changed and I personally think of it as a viable counter top option for many applications. Good luck and congrats on that new home. warm regards, jana

Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: How Can I Subdue this Blue Vanity?

I use a company out of Oakland, DeAnda's upholstery; they are a family owned operation, don't be disillusioned by their basic business nature; no website, etc. They are a hispanic couple who have done all of my upholstery work on my design clientele over the last 9 years and they do phenomenal work, are great people to work with, pick up and deliver, and their pricing is very competitive. I have always supplied the fabric, so i cannot comment on their support with that aspect, but their # is 510-436-4057; owners, Roberto and Josephine.

Good luck and post pics of the finished product.

If your floors are a warm wood, you really need a cool color; but a warmer version of cool; if your flooring is carpet or other, warmed up cool tone is still good; I like the blues, but bird's eye is a bit light for my liking; I love BM's paint fans; I use them all the time and their color selection is unprecedented; Try Rhine River 689; or if that is dark, depending on the amount of natural light, size of space, etc., try Beach Glass 1564; both are BM colors.

They have a washable flat that I would recommend. Test if you can; the quart you waste is worth it.

Good luck and post after pics---

thanks,

Yes, you can go to a carpet store and find one that sells remnants; you can get a very high end carpet that they cut for you, you can either have them do a decorative accent border, bind it or surge the edges; this is a very cost effective and fun look and a way to get higher end carpeting cheaper than their typical per yard charge. :)

Good luck (Dick's carpet in Berkeley is good for this)

Ok, this might sound cheesy, but I immediately thought of a new chair from Ikea, the frame seems to work perfectly, the price is grand, and you could find some fabric and have the cushions done custom that would set this room off;

see what you think. a fabric like this for instance:

I'd keep the chairs, repaint and reupholster them, sell the table and use the credenza in another room; get a cool table and with simple lines and you are good to go. Depending on your color palette, the chairs can be painted a variety of colors and would read more updated---I am not a fan of sets, so that would be my suggestion---good luck and post after pics.

Ditto Anne, plus look closely, these are not entire subscriptions----I did this recently based on another blog's suggestion, and similar experience to Anne---scam----weird # of issues per time frame too if you look at the fine print.

Try a nice warm coral or even an aqua green/blue; but go with tones, Colors, that are grayed out, not tinty colors; if you want specific suggestions, you can email me directly.

I have fans for BM, KB, Sherwin Williams, etc.

Good luck,

jana

Good Questions: What Color Goes Well with These Tiles?
6/15/07 7:46 PM

If you do get pillows, try kidney shaped---that would balance out the scale of the sofa; you could do one larger kidney in the middle of the sofa (rectangular and low); ditto, hollyindc--gotta lower that painting. Good luck---you could also paint the wall a nice blue/green/ that would be very cool and balancing for the tile colors----if you want specific color, email me. thanks, jana
