Very cool man. I'm in the process of moving into an old office building loft conversion built in the early 1900s here in Chicago. Its definitely a raw space, kind of like yours and I was contemplating on how to decorate the space. You've inspired me! Love it!

beautiful loft, however this sure seems a lot larger than 1300 sq feet. I get that the high ceilings make the place look larger than it actually is but that breakfast bar in the kitchen has 6 stools. My condo is 1250sq feet 2/bed 2/bath there is no way that my kitchen even comes close to the size of this place.

Love your loft Sage. I live in Chicago and know exactly where this building is. I looked at the loft condos across the street often wondered about your building.

There is so much history in the area, I love the architecture of your building's exterior as well as others in the area. Your loft is exactly what comes to my mind when I think "loft living". Thanks for sharing your pics!

I rented a 1 bedroom loft apartment on the first floor of a warehouse conversion. I loved the soaring 14 foot ceilings and exposed pipes & duct work. Impressed by all of the industrial character, I failed to recognize a big horizontal pipe on the ceiling that hung right across the entire length of the bedroom above my bed. That is, until the first night.

Turns out that said pipe was a main sewer line for all of the floors above me. I could hear the flow of every toilet flush and shower etc of my neighbors on the upper floors. It sounded like a sporadic rain machine, but thinking about the contents of the liquid did not bring tranquility; especially since it was right above my bed!

In addition, some people think a toilet should be used for more than what it was designed for. On occasion I'd be hear a loud clang in the metal pipe as if someone flushed down a golf ball or some other object.

I ended up learning how to sleep with earplugs that year and when my lease was up, I was outa there.

The Things You Didn't Know When You Moved In

I was recently faced with a similar situation. I looked at a condo that is aggressively priced for purchase. It was a bit trashed (egg stains on the walls, bad stains and burn marks on the hardwood floors, dents on the appliances etc).

Come to find out the previous person who lived in the unit (a renter) was a drug addict who recently overdosed and died in the apartment. Although I liked it, the place did have a sad vibe to it; prior to me finding out the history.

Good Questions

I agree, I would NOT appreciate a spray painted trophy, or a picture of my place. And who even owns a CD player these days? TP is practical, a meal is also a good idea. I think decor for someone's home is a personal thing; I'd appreciate a gift card or maybe a handy dandy and useful small kitchen gadget.

Wow, job well done on the rehab! I live in the same neighborhood and know this building; walk the dog past it daily. Love the corner units, huge windows, tons of natural light and character. There isn't a single thing that I don't like about your remodel. Thanks for sharing.

Where did you get that cool hanging light (white ball)? Does anyone know where that hanging lamp is from?
