Total soup newbie question: the pork chop is cooked beforehand, right? Then added to the soup?

Beautiful use of color and proportion.

Au contraire, ErikTheRed. Housing Works (of them, actually), Spence Chapin Thrift, Goodwill and Council Thrift are all close by. And all of them are pretty great.

(Did I just give away some of the my best sources? I totally did.)

The Shaker Stove from Wittus is pricey as heck, but so gorgeous that I'm actually looking at places I can cut other things in my budget just to afford it. It, too, is EPA certified and can qualify buyers for a tax credit.

I had the same thought as Jennie K. But it's worth remembering that red has different connotations in China; luck, strength, celebration, etc.

I wonder if the fabric covering could be made in different colors?

Well, gosh. That's my apartment.

Thanks to Mark, who is a gentlemen and an artist, I'm looking at and enjoying these stripes right now.

He's quite right that the color runs a bit blue. We've found that on a day of strong sunlight the wall looks almost navy. The other walls in the room are Shaded White from Farrow and Ball.

The chair was eBay, the lamp and steel table were craigslist. Pink roses were Mark's idea. :)

If you've got windows that open from the bottom, though, you'll need to leave room to get your fingers in and lift the sill.

(Still, gorgeous.)

Been doing this now for 3 years and it is very much worth it. Bonus side-effect - when I want to watch big, live events, I'm forced to go out and join others at bars, hotels lobbies, friend's houses, etc. I watched the election returns at a Brooklyn theater, for instance, which was exciting and companionable in a way I couldn't have imagined.

Mark painted my entire one bedroom this past weekend. I echo what was said above (meticulous, neat, good value) and add that he has an amazing eye. He helped us choose color and then suggested and executed a fantastic pattern on one long wall. We're thrilled. I recommend him highly and without reservation to anyone.

Old cast-iron pot, big and shallow. Makes a huge difference in a room about 15 x 20.

The article notes that Mr. Kimsey has "no interest in living in the diminuative structure..."

It's 2,500 square feet.

2, 500 square feet is "diminuative" now? Really? That's 5.5 times the size of my home.

I'm cranky.

Before we bought it, our house was vacant for a winter. Apparently a sickly deer moved in and nested in the kitchen, only to disappear in early spring.

The house, thus, is now named Fawn's End.
