If you're a bit hesitant to paint the brick, I think that painting some more interesting colors on the upstairs windows siding, door frame, and shutters would make a huuuuge difference.

I'm not sure how warm Sweden gets in the summer, but that black exterior cannot be good for cooling the inside temperature.

This kind of color scheme is used a lot on larger houses in cities like New Orleans, Savannah, Mobile, or Charleston. I love it in those situations. I just don't know how well it works on a smaller craftsman in landlocked Durham. Not a huge fan.

Not to mention the huge cost difference between towers and laptops with even remotely similar specs.

Home Depot and Lowe's often stock these as well. Maybe not the really tall ones, but I know I've seen the short/medium ones there.

In Birmingham, AL our recycling center accepts Plastics 1 through 7! (Most places don't even mention 7)

Luckily, our recycling center is run by a nonprofit organization and is MUCH more inspired to do their work than a typical government run program.

(For those in the area, check out http://www.aeconline.org/index.php?sn=445 for info)

No! I have no desire to lint roll my bed every morning.

This would look great on a nice green summer lawn.

Now that the summer has started, one challenge I've run into is leaving the ceiling fans in each room on. It's a lot easier to walk out of a room or apartment with a fan on than it is a light bulb.

While ceiling fans are great for supplementing or replacing air conditioning, it only makes a room feel cooler. It does not actually change the temperature. So, there are no advantages to leaving a ceiling fan on when leaving a room

I bought my wall-mounted bottle opener from ikea - no backboard or annoying logos on it.

Might look better if the tile work was better done.

Reminds me of an old YMCA shower room.

I think LLC makes a good point and shows that this issue is not so clear cut...

"Stuff" requires a large amount of energy to make, ship, use, and dispose of. By managing our "stuff" more efficiently (such as buying local), we would save a lot of energy.

There are so many solutions that just need more support. Waste-to-energy methods, for example.

I didn't get the legs from this place, but here's an example of a table I built using Ikea legs, lumber, and a second-hand window:

Elizabeth, north side Birmingham is far from being just "slums, drugs, and crime" and is getting better by the day. If this is the way that everyone thinks about north side, then it will continue to stay in its depressed state (other than during the middle of a business day).

Also, it's not THAT inconvenient to bike downtown from Southside - I live in the Highlands and ride my bike to the Alabama Power building quite often. I take 24th St to get over the tracks, and then it's a smooth ride. I'll admit that it took a while for me to build up the bicycle endurance to climb the Red Mountain hills.

Besides long waves, they will be very short range. Meaning unless you're using this thing as a pillow, I think you'll be fine.
